A question with no object is meaningless.
Now if you mean why do people want to know the why to ANYTHING, there's no explaining it to you in better terms than you already know. You just asked WHY, yourself.
Cause and effect, my friend. Nothing happens without sufficient cause. Everything that happens is an effect, and turns around to be a cause. Understanding WHY something happens is to understand how one moment turns into the next. It is to understand a basic component of reality. To not ask WHY now and then would reduce you to the level of an idiot.

The question "Why?" is, in my opinion, an unanswerable question. That is, no mater what you say after the question is asked, no matter what the answer, one can always ask "Why?" again. You can always ask the same question again as if it had never been answered before.
