As I have worked in a law firm before, I can tell you that there is no easy way to find the best one.

First to consider is, language. Does your boyfriend speak English? If not, he may need a solicitor who can speak his native language.

The second question is whether his case is a difficult one or simple one? The answer to this will decide how much expertise you expect from the solicitor. And as a rule of thumb, the more expertise you expect from the solicitor, the higher his/her fee will be.

The third step is to find a solicitor of competent skills. Keep in mind that no solicitor can know every aspect of law, so you should get one with relevant experience in immigration law.

The most direct way is to ask your friend whether any of them has hired any solicitor for similar problems and their comment on the performance.

Or you may find out some ads on your boyfriend's native newspapers.

Finally, you may go to the Law Society of Scotland web sites to look for help.

Good luck.

You are wasting your time a Solicitor would be of little help.Your freind will have to return home and make a new application to the British Embassy in the country where he lives. You may access the Embassy website and renew the Visa online but most likely he will have to present himself for exhausting interview. The chances of him staying in this country for an indefinate period is slim. However a Visa can be got for a 10 yr period in some cases.Because of your honesty this will stand you in good stead with the Embassy.I implore you to read the rules as stated on the Web Site,it will answer all of your queries.Should you not understand its content then print it off and take it along to any Solicitor or a person that is competant and it will be explained to you.Good Luck and keep it going.

All he has to do is to get out of the country and then back in. He'll get a visa in the airport coming in.

Most importantly, the question is basic, without the: are you scottish? where is your boyfriend from? Beware: this is not racist, this is being PC. why are you not being 100% sincere, by that I mean explaining more explicitly where he comes from, have you or he got something to hide?? I speak for many people here we will all have DOUBTS unless proven otherwise, BEWARE.
