I had (since lost, STUPID STUPID) a letter from the Smithsonian library's head chairman saying that the Bible was the most historically accurate document human kind has ever studied.

The Story of Noah and the Flood is based on an earlier Assyrian story "The Epic of Gilgamesh". The Ten Commandments are very similar to a section of The Egyptian Book of the Dead (spell 125) and to an older tribal code of law from Mesopotamia.

The Exile in Egypt has no basis in realty, although there may have been foreign tribes living in the area that aided in building certain cities. The pyramids were over 1000 years old during the generation of Moses.

As for the history accounts, there is some evidence for the kings and other characters from that time. The Babylonian exile itself is backed up by little hard evidence.

The NT is set in historical times. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus does mention Jesus, his brother James and John the Baptist, Pilate and Herod.

We have no evidence that John the Apostle was real, or that he was a prisoner on Patmos Island, or that Revelation is connected to him. We have no mention of Paul in Rome. We have no mention in the Bible or in other sources that Paul and Peter were executed in Rome.

Recently, there have been some discoveries relating to buildings of the time, but little outside of the texts of the NT.

There are four tests of the bible:
1. M = The collected manuscripts that validate the authenticity of the text

2. A = The archaeological record of the bibles dates, times, places and people is validated in time and known places. There are none wrong!

3. P = The record of the prophetic messages of the bible have all come true as told by the prophets.

4. S = The science of statistical probability tells us that the probability that the bible is wrong verses right is insignificantly measurable.

God did not get it wrong!

I've been asking that question for years!

I once had an exchange of emails with Dr. Ralph O. Muncaster, a former atheist and hardcore Bible skeptic who spent 15 years conducting research to dispute the Bible and discovered evidence that supports the Bible's claims.

When asked, he was unable to produce ANY evidence. Links to Dr. Muncaster's web site and my own record of our exchanges are provided below.

For those who say that whne you read it you find that it's true...that's false, because when I read it I found that it contradicts itself in many places..it is my opinion that other than the Bible, there is no place that says it's true other than those people who might have read it...yeah it has some historical references to it, but it's not a history book, it's a religious text, and all religious texts mixes history and their beliefs together. Therefore making it void as any accurate history book. Hope this answered it for you.

As the wording of your question leads to several possible interpretations I will limit my answer. I have found through trial and error that it makes the most sense of the world and the problems in it. Over time things that have been thought to have had no proof brhind them in the bible have later been found to have a basis. ( ie;Pilates arch)

The Bible has NEVER been proven wrong HISTORICALLY, GEOGRAPHICALLY, SCIENTIFICALLY or ARCHAEOLOGICALLY. That alone tells me that the rest must be true also. If minute details in the Bible have been found true (as in the above) what else could it be but ALL true.

Many times over in my life the Bible has proved itself to be true.

There is none, of course. No holy book has proof that the things they say are true... that's why they are holy books... People take all that on faith... one god is as good as another, all gods and religions are human inventions to ease the pain of the unknown.... Thor, Odin Apollo, Jehovah, Osiris.... same dog, different collar.
