A lot of people may not read your question entirely.

Truthfully, it would be good for a dog to have a walk at least once a day - but that can only be done if you don't work, go to school, have children etc.

A big back yard is glorious for a dog. It is his territory.

I think 3-4 walks a week is more than the average dog will ever have. Plus, yours gets to go to the beach.

I work for a vet and I know this sounds horrible, but my dog usually gets maybe 1 walk a week. But she loves her territory, she gets to help cook, she has a great bed to sleep on and her food costs more than you can imagine. She has 3 kids that adore her and play with her constantly.

I guess the answer is that some don't read between the lines.

Yikes, did you mean she stays outside all day? I assumed she was an indoor dog.

I used to be a non-walker with my former pets, but I totally changed with the one I have now. I completely believe in walking your dog every single day. It's an awesome bonding time with your animal and you both get extremely beneficial cardiovascular exercise. I don't think they have to be walked 3 times a day.....I give mine one really good walk every morning. Our route is 3 miles long and takes us about 55 minutes. Obviously when the weather is really, really bad we don't(but that doesn't account for many days of the year) And, yes, he gets to go out and pee whenever he tells me he needs to....and he has playtime in the backyard everyday. My dog was a rescue dog. He was barely 25 pounds when I got him. He now weighs 37 pounds and is solid as a rock. I know the time and energy I have devoted to him has made the difference. He could barely walk 1 mile without being near exhaustion when we first started and he acted like he hated it too. Now he would gleefully walk 15 miles a day if I let him....but I don't have that kind of time. Do what you can with your pet. If your pet is happy and has no behavioral issues, then you must be doing something right.

I don't know the answer to this.. I see it all the time.. Doesn't matter if you are talking dogs or anything else.. People have a tendency to talk and then maybe think.. This is a very good question.. I think it's human nature sometimes to jump in with an answer.. Assuming to know what's going on, and offer advice.. I guess when people ask.. others assume they want to hear their opinion.. If details aren't clear, or are left out.. Then people will fill in the blanks just in case you didn't know.. Just being helpful I guess...

My dog likes to play fetch.. Likes it when we play hide and seek.. And they love to snuggle on the couch and watch tv... I don't walk my dogs 3 times a day, they are all in good shape.. Eat well and are very healthy..

You really should let your dog pee more than 4 times a week tho... :)

sorry to hear you don't like accurate responses from us. Why not ask a pet shop or a vet next time. Responsible owners know the sun these days is too hot for pets to stay outdoors all the time. And we know it's cruel to have a dog outdoors tied up all day or chained up out there. Therefore the responders gave you reasonable answers in that it is very true that a dog needs to go outdoors three times a day to p. If you can't do that then maybe you should have a cat since a cat uses the sandbox indoors, and you won't have to worry about opening and closing the door for your cat. What is the reason you why you want a pet? you didn't say.

it's good for your dog to be walked twice a day. Just like it's good for people in good shape to work out. If your dog has a big yard great; I'll put you in a big yard and see how much fun you have.

Sounds like your a good overall dog owner, but I'd be concerned about someone who writes like she's sending a text message owning a dog.

Think about this. Walking with your dog not only keeps your dog healthy but, it keeps you active and healthy. It is good for you and the dog.
It also helps to relieve stress by taking a walk.

We hardly ever walk our dogs, but we have a huge yard, which we are in almost all day they get lots of exercise in. So if you have a large yard, they really don't need walks

Dang, if I started thinking I would never talk. My brain has a mind of it's own and we start to argue about what we think.
