The owner changed the name when he bought the team. Originally the team name was the Los Angeles Angels when the team was formed and played in Dodger Stadium back in the 60's. The team then moved to Anaheim and Gene Autry, the teams first owner, changed the name to the California Angels. When Disney bought the team and wanted money from the city to renovate the stadium, the city wanted the name change to the Anaheim Angels. Once Arte Moreno, the current owner, bought the team, he realized for marketing purposes, LA Angels (of Anaheim) makes more marketing sense. Nobody complained the the LA Rams were called that although they played in Anaheim, or no one complains that Dallas Cowboys actually play in Irving, TX. Or even the NY Giants who actually play in the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey!

They didn't ---They are actually the LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM.....ain't compromise grand....The city got pissed after spending money on the stadium and then losing the promotional value of the name, but the team owner wanted a "nationally" known name and people on the East coast don't know what the hell Anaheim is, except someplace out in California..........There have been hundreds of articles about this in the various local papers...

Because the new owner is an idiot. Anaheim is about 30+ miles from Los Angeles.

The new owner wanted to do it so he did! But what the hey, they have Mike Scioscia and I love the way he gets the team stealing bases and scoring points.

They're still the Anaheim Angels to me, though.

Because no one asked anyone that lived in Orange County. We think it's stupid. They will always be California Angels or Anahiem Angles to me.
