Less than half of your calories each day in carbs (that means less potatoes, less pasta), less than 20 gms a day of saturated fats, and my doctor also recommended this:

Well, my friend. At least you are concerned about it. Eggs have a lot of cholesterol. Sausage has a lot of cholesterol. Cheese has a lot of cholesterol. Almost all dairy products have a lot of cholesterol. Watch your salad dressings, they contain bad stuff as well. Eat lots of leafy, green vegetables. Lean meat such as chicken, turkey, but don't fry it, bake or broil and get a can of cooking spray. Oatmeal is excellent in reducing cholesterol. So are Cheerios (don't particularly like but just info). Get yourself a paperback that lists the worst foods for cholesterol. Sometimes, high cholesterol is genetic. I take red yeast rice (in capsule form and over the counter) It works. Good luck. You will get is done. Try to keep your cholesterol under 200.

As the TV commercial says, there are two causes for elevated cholesterol, diet and genetics. You can't change your genes, so what's left is diet or medication.

Consume more cereal, fruits and vegetables, consume less red meat. Eat chicken without the skin. Watch salad dressing.
