You're right. It's a terrible thing to teach children. People invented the idea of an eternal torture chamber to scare others into obedience. I'm not a Jehovah's Witness, but they have a webpage that explains where the idea came from and why it is wrong.

Why wouldn't you warn a child so he could avoid such a horrible fate?
Do we not warn children not to drink poison, not to play with fire and to look before crossing the road?
Do those warnings about potential lethal dangers also send kids nuts?
And even if they did, shouldn't we warn them anyway?
