my 5 month old rottie mix, 5 every time since day 1. my 2 year old lab mix, just plops his fat rear on the floor when and where ever lol.

No more than three.

Some dogs will turn to make sure that no one new is around. Some may turn to help loosen up and settle down. And some may turn to make the area softer and more settled.

Mine stops and plops !

Its different for everydog. some just plop down, and some keep going around before it settles. Im also pretty sure its not the same number everytime! =]

It varies. I've had dogs that take none or one, and some that took eight.

It's a vestigal habit from patrolling their territory. In the wild they'd walk their territory, in diminishing circles, until they knew it was safe to sleep.

Each dog is different in how many circles they feel they need to do.
