the reason i put it to 780 to 1000 is because it is a fuzzy number and i dont want to count the embisees in that number also

A global empire like the United States needs overseas bases to accommodate its troops, now in 135 countries. Although the latest "Base Structure Report" of the Department of Defense admits to having 96 military installations in U.S. overseas territories and 702 military installations in foreign countries, it has been documented that this number is far too low.

The official list of countries that we have bases in is as follows:

Antigua
Australia
Austria
Bahamas
Bahrain
Belgium
Canada
Columbia
Cuba
Denmark
Egypt
France Germany
Greece
Honduras
Iceland
Indonesia
Italy
Kenya
Japan
Luxembourg
Netherlands
New Zealand Norway
Oman
Peru
Portugal
Singapore
Spain
South Korea
Turkey
United Arab Emirates
United Kingdom
Venezuela

To this must be added the bases that we have in Diego Garcia, Greenland, Hong Kong, Kwajalein Atoll, and St. Helena. This makes a total of 39 foreign locations that the United States officially has bases in, not counting bases in U.

I think its great, What price for freedom then is what yuou are asking. The United States has long been a target for countries that dont believe in the things we do, so on the offensive side of it, I would say we can strike anywhere in the world in minimal time, not only for our freedom, but to provide stability in areas that need it, thereby giving other nations a chance to be free, and we dont ask for much either, save the construction projects and trade, which is all big business for the United States, So whats wrong with that?

we get plenty of chances to visit other places in the world ??? sorry I do not see where else the question is leading

Oh I see by your edit, well a lot of bases in the UK are leased to the US at a peppercorn rent.........and the ones in Europe are all down to the last war and holding a place there should anything ever kick off again............I would imagine that is much the same reason for all the others around the world.

The thing is you state that a lot of money is spent in maintaining them........look at the other side, should you ever need jump of places for refueling etc like you did and do for both gulf war things, surely it is better to make use of bases that you have strong hold in or try and do it all from your own country, which has been shown is not always feasible.

regards

What do you think of over 400 "bases" in the USA controlled by foreign governments? Yeah, we call them embassies and consulates but each has armed soldiers of the other nation protecting them. Not to mention the base in New Mexico that is essentially a Germany Air Force base.

Shall we all BOO HOO at the same time?
