Or whatever the cream stuff is kept in is called. But why are some of them so small? Is it supposed to work faster or something?

Usually, they are small quantities because you (hopefully) won't need to use it for long periods of time.

Probably the working ingredients lose efficacy once exposed to air or light, so they won't work as well after long periods of time.

Probably so you run out of it quicker and have to buy more. There don't seem to be any large "value" sizes. It's all about profit.
