Smith was an imaginative but not to well educated individual. He had a major infection in his leg at about age ten which required surgery without anesthesia. The medical profession in 1815 worked best with cadavers, not living people, so even though he survived, that had to have made an impression on a young person.

Smith's family was very spiritual but superstitious, and both J Smith Sr and Jr were known to their community as money-lookers and treasure hunters, and many considered that family to be what we would characterize as 'trailer trash' today.

Smith was a creation of the times and circumstances, plus aided or hindered by a narcissic and egomaniacal personality and a desire to extend power over people. He found that being a 'prophet' worked well for him.

No. They found out the fact of what the Prophet Smith replaced into coaching. Mormons have by no ability been racially unique. For a whilst, black human beings ought to no longer carry the Priesthood yet they weren't excluded from being a member.

Joseph Smith, in fact, stumbled upon the recipe for LSD, and was also responsible for popularizing the drug through the early church (hence LDS; a not-so clever ruse on the part of Smith). It was on LSD, or acid as his disciples came to call it, that he wrote the book of Mormon. And now you know!

Visit www.mormon.org for official information about the church or ask a member or the missionaries, sounds like you already are doing some of this. You can find out more that way about what we believe and make your own judgements then, but first learn then pray about the things you are learning. God does answer our prayers.

I think you should apologize to drug users. You are giving them a bad name by lumping them together with Joseph Smith.

Any church started by man is not of God.
God's Son started the church when he told Peter upon this rock(Jesus is the rock)I will
build my church and the gates of hell will not
prevail against it.He would never start a church
on a man's name.

He was tripping on the ergot found in rye, just like all the "witches" burned at the stake in Salem!

I've heard he was addicted to opium, and the whole Book of Mormon was a result of an opium hallucination. I don't know if it's true though.
