If you can't do something as simple as listening to your teacher, maybe you could try talking to your parents about some A.D.D. medicine?

There are ways that teachers learn about which increase a child's learning.
Some kids learn by DOING
Some kids learn by READING
Some SEEING
Some HEARING
Some TOUCHING sand FEELING (writing it down or holding something)
Sssoooooo,
you end up with many kids in a classroom who are learning ONE way and many learning another. It is the teacher's job to teach using ALL the methods necessary for learning to take place. Then every kid will learn the material.
Your brother is obviously a learner who listens and understands. And you have another style.
I wonder if you could go to the counselor and ask for an assessment of you learning style? Then they can alert the teachers and get them to include something that is guaranteed to help you learn the material.
Unless of course you are deficient in your mental capacity. Some kids are not as bright as others, and some are very backward in learning cos they just do not have the brain cells.
Hope you are not one of them.

First you have to really be serious. Not just one day say "I want to get better grades" and the next day say "I want to go and do this with my friends, I`ll study tomorrow".
Then you can buckel down and start taking notes, record lessons, or after class, ask for any extra help from the teacher.
All schools that I have delt with have an after school study class for students that need help.
Hopefully yours will also.
Read and re-read the material each day.
Play games with yourself. I used to say to myself, I hate this class but if I learn something today, then I will win and the teacher will be the loser. And I will pretend that she got docked $100 for losing. Sometimes it worked.
You can make up your own game.

Pay attention when the teacher is teaching. I also got low grades and my GPA is not good because i m new immigrants. But I tried more harder than other, so finally I got 4.0 in GPA. Just study harder. Don't give up.

write down the important things they are saying, or ask your teacher if you can record it. Bring your laptop to school if you have one, and type everything you need to learn. Make extra notes to help you remember.. or make flash cards for words, or notes that always helps me.
