Some have answered that ideas are only good as long as "the person who has them has breath in their body."

Is this true, or do ideas have a life outside of their creator, and have the ability to continue on after their creator's last breath?

They live on as long as they continue to inspire. Some ideas have been discredited with the passage of time, but there are others that have assured their originator's immortality.

The initial impression of an idea is important, if it is to make an impact, and continued faith is the only means of assuring practice. With this, there is always the possibility of growth, as ideas are expanded and interpreted by others. The constant human interaction is necessary, however. Lacking the dynamic of personal involvement, some ideas stagnate and die, though they may continue to be a discussed, discredited theory.

This almost is religious in its application, but, of course, all religions began with someone's humble idea.

Greatness can come from humble men.

The thing about ideas are that when they do "live on" they get re-interpreted and this changes the success of the idea. That is, time changes ideas because ideas are comprehended in the context of the present.

It is a favourite idea of mine.. that advertising agents think up an idea for a thirty second timeslot... that get's aired on television for say a month or two.

Their idea is designed to last a month or two so .. pretty much anything goes.. the ideas don't have to be particularly brilliant to last that long do they!

But then take for example the design ideas of an engineer preparing concepts for a new bridge across the Sydney Harbour... that design concept must last a hundred years.. even longer.... it has to still be a good idea a hundred years from now and that is a real challenge especially compared to a 30 second advertising slot. So yes, ideas can traverse the life of its originator, but those ideas are re-interpreted in the context of time.

Ideas do not have a lifeform. They are not "alive" without the help of someone that came up with them. The only way that an idea can live on is if it manifests itself into a physical shape. Example, someone had the idea of the internet one day. It is now something that we all know and love and live with on a daily basis. If this person would not have actually gone through and acted upon his idea, it would never have done anything. It is only our actions that live on through the direct and indirect causes that they have upon people and things and even ideas.

Do we remember Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Gautama Buddha, the founding fathers of the U.S. of A., Thomas Alva Edison, Henry Ford, Isaac Newton, etc., etc., etc.?

How many inventors have died leaving behind their inventions that have since been improved upon? Listened to the radio lately, or watched television or used a cell phone?
Every flown in an airplane or ridden in or driven a car?

Ideas and ideals live on.

Ideas can continue as long as there is one human being alive. Look at Christianity. This idea has lasted generations. But if we were to all disappear tomorrow, so would Christianity as we know it.

Only if they are passed on. The Library of Congress and the email servers of the world have all sorts of ideas in limbo.

Not always. Documentation helps. That's why the burning of books is so terribly awful. If you document your ideas, and your ideas are inspiring and are helpful, and read everywhere and though of as brilliant, you will therefore, live forever. That is why I wish to teach and to write.

If you are talking about Jesus, the Creator, He is still alive. He arose from the grave.
