You must have better organizational skills, less things distract you, and maybe more energy, too. I also know that your upbringing has a lot to do with it.

Maybe she is feeling depressed and overwhelmed. I went through a time like this for several years but visitors didn't know it because I would put on a happy face for others. I wasn't lazy. When I started working outside of the home I would get promoted for being such a good conscientious worker. There were problems at home though. I would save money, my husband would spend it; I would work and fix things around the house and yard, he did almost nothing and on top of that he complained about everybody and lost his temper a lot. None of this happened in front of people outside of the family. Eventually I figured out that it was easier to just give up and not try. Maybe your friend has some things going on in her life that you are not aware of, Maybe she learned her housecleaning style from her parents, or maybe she is just plain lazy. Don't be quick to judge.

Some people don't classify cleaning as a priority. There's a difference between lived in and total pit. Lived in is not what this sounds like though, obviously.
If it's really bad, perhaps DHS needs to be called?? They won't tell the lady who reported them, that's promised. But it could definately be a health hazard for kids to live in filth.

Because everybody is different. People have different issues, different beliefs and different ideas about what "clean" is.
You shouldn't judge her so harshly. Be compassionate.
And if it really bothers you, don't go over to her house. Or NICELY bring it up. Maybe ask her if she needs help or if you could give her some tips. But don't be as mean to her as you are in this question.

I have always wondered that, unless they are spending a lot of time with the kids and playing games, or watching soap operas. I understand when they are sick or something bad happens and their in a depression.

I agree with Debbi, sometimes all a person needs is a helping hand. Once she gets ahead and if it continues then she hasn't learned her lesson yet.

Some people just aren't clean. Don't let it bother you too much, just try not to eat her food unless her kitchen is clean and sanitary.

One day treat her to a maid service (tell her she won it) and then maybe she can keep it up after that.
