I have been searching for my perfect wedding dress and I found the one that I want...unfortunately, it is about 2500 dollars more than I can afford. I found a used one for sale, but it is a size 8-10; I am a size 2-4. Is there any way that this dress will be able to be altered down to my size. Please help! Here is a link to the dress:

It is the model dp117 (with the horizontal lace stripes). Thank you!!

For all of you that are telling me how ugly you think the dress is, stop. Please. I am not asking for opinions on how the dress looks, I am asking if it can be altered. Have some consideration.

If you can find a good seamstress you absolutly can have the dress atered to fit you and it will look fabulous.
If you like the dres, then get it and fid a good seamstress.
I took my wedding dress to a seamstress that specializes in restoration she was a miracle worker and could totally rework a dress. Mine did not need that much done and she did a great job.
Every bridesmaid dress I have ever worn I had to have altered because they never fit me right, and I have had great luck.
So I think you should get it!! I am sure it will turn out great.
Good luck!

It's actually not as big a size difference as you think. You wear a size 2 or 4 which means in a wedding gown you wear a size 6 or 8 so this gown will probably be the right size for you. I say go for it. When I got married I wore a size 6 or 8 depending on the outfit. My wedding gown was a size 12 and didn't have to be taken in all that much. I found the link below, I don't know how accurate the size chart is because it's not from Demetrios' website but an independent shop, but it should give you sort of an idea.

It is a beautiful dress! Here is what I would do... since sizes are never all the same, especially in higher end clothing (which could go either way - it could be even larger than an 8-10 or a bit smaller - more like a 6). But I would ask the seller if you could take it to taylor to see if they would be able to fit it to you. If they don't want to let you take it for an opinion, don't buy it. Most businesses or sellers know this is a big purchase and it needs to be right. So if they don't let you, I'd look elsewhere.... congrats on the wedding!

You might be in luck. While your normal size is 2-4, your dress size may be 6-8. Dress sizing is much different in the wedding industry because of the measurements that have to be taken. While your waist and hips may be a 2 and 4, your bust might be a 6 ... which would mean you would need a size 8 dress which would then be altered to fit each measurement. You need to go to a Demetrios authorized vendor and get them to measure you. Then have them compare it to their sizing charts to see where you fall. After you get your size, then you can look for the dress.
Another place you can look is www.sellyourweddingdress.com ... they have some great selections and just might have that dress.

Altering that much might cause a funny look. At the very least it will cost you a fortune. Dress sizes with formal wear run european which are one or two sizes larger than what your American size is but I don't reccomend buying a dress you havn't tried on first unless it is EXACTLY the same as the one you tried on in the store. Including size.
Instead I would find a good seamstress and let her make you a knockoff of the dress. They look the same....its not like you get "authentic vera wang" or whatever tattood on the butt so nobody is gonna know the diff. except you and hubby.

If it made of lace like the one pictured, it may be difficult to alter it that much without cutting alot of te detail off. Ask a dressmaker about this. I wouldn't know...I know they can take dresses in by quite abit especially when the bride losses a lot of weight...but I know it depends on the material of the dress and what type of detail it has on it.

Actually if you want too look at size charts, see if you can find one for Priscilla's of Boston. When I ordered my Demetrios gown the bridal shop used that because they are actually made by the same manufacturer and run on the smallish side too.
Since you are going to be seeing a seamstress anyway, ask her if she can recreate it for you with this as a pattern:

It sounds odd but try craigslist. You know, If you went to a bridal store they have cheaper dresses. Just remember, you can talk them down. The price on the tag is NOT final.
Peace out and Good Luck

I suppose you could take the picture to a seamstress and ask about alterations. It sounds like a big change though and I would worry about loosing the great detailing.

It may need to be altered too much, although they say a dress can be altered down 4 sizes.
Here are some similar dresses that may catch your eye and are cheaper. (or probably so)
