Corporations existed for much of the middle ages and all of the renaissance in England -- while it was still an active monarchy.

Don't know what you mean exactly. Maybe the hudson Trading Co. or the West Indies Company, or any of the other groups created between the English, French, Spanish, etc monarch and members of their royal courts to exploit the "new world"?

If so then, yes it has and to an extent does today. One response to this form of government was The American Revolution"
