A pregnant rat is very hormonal, and they are unpredictable, not themselves.... that is why she bites right now. I have never seen a rat that bit when it was not pregnant. As for your other question, I think you should leave the other girl in there with her, rats in the wild share motherhood, and she'll help to take care of the new babies. You don't need to worry as the new mommy will take care of everything... they are very instinctive when it comes to their young. All you need to do is provide her with extra attention and bedding! Good luck with your new mommy!

She's probably pregnant. A couple years ago we adopted 2 girls froma feeder bin & 1 had pups about 2 weeks later. Like your girl, she suddenly got *much* bigger around the middle & seemed more nervous than usual.
We didn't separate our girls, and there were no problems but we may just have been lucky. The non-pregnant doe suddenly built her own nest between the expectant mom & the cage door a day or 2 before the pups were born (they had slept together until this time). When the pups were a couple weeks old & beginning to wander around the cage, the non-mama would drag them back to the nest if they tried to come to the open cage door. The pups were quickly socialized & very friendly, and the mama rat was afraid of me until she noticed how much fun her kids had interacting with humans. Gradually she became more trusting & was eventually as sweet as any of her babies. The other girl has *never* warmed up to people, unfortunately, but this is pretty unusual.
Good luck with your little ones!

she is becoming a little nippy because she wants to take care of her pups, and it is not a good idea to kepp the other rat in the cage with her, becaues she might try to hurt her if she gets to close to her babys.

She should be seperated for the birth. If she's preggers she she should rapidly gain weight towards the end of the pregnancy, so it sounds as if she is! :)
