Suggestion for resolution of bringing troops home from Iraq:

Keep in mind we want them to be governed by the people and for the people.

1. Get the people registered as the political/religious following. Sunni, Shiite, Turk or what ever.
2. Divide the country in to states by this political belief, Create a central (federal) government with representatives voting on laws and financial topics.
3. Use our troops to protect the voters. This is a double edge sword, it will make us perform a useful task there and might draw out the insurgents making them easier to find.
4. Have elections with questions like:
 Would you like the NATO forces to leave.
Note if they voted to have us leave it would give us an excuse to bow out gracefully even if the whole situation went to s*^& after we left.

BRING OUR BOYS HOME

What do you think about separating local political factions into states with a central (Federal government.

Also I’d like to see what others think in America.

Iraq today is a de factp federal state. It is failing for several reasons: (1) there are more than 3 Shi'ites per Sunni or Kurd. That's why the central government is effectively Shi'Ite; (2) Even if the numbers were right, mutual hatred would make it impossible. Think of a federal government for Israel and Palestine.(3) Sharing of oil revenue is what it's all about. The Shi'ites will never give the Sunnis a drop of oil because while the Sunnis were stealing the Shii'ites oil for 80 years, they never gave a drop to anybody;

Partition into three totally independent nations is the only possible solution. That is happening gradually now on the battlefield. It's a shame that our guys are getting killed trying to prevent it.

The way out is to redeploy the troops to strategic border areas where they can be supplied or can exit with relative safety. With half of present strength, they can discourage outside interference and stop the war from spreading.

While we watch as a neutral, the war will go on with the Sunnis losing quickly. A truce will lead to a viable partition. Then we can leave while Shi'ite factions fight over the oil. Don't worry: the winners will pump all they can sell.

We have brought something pretty mush exactly the same up. BIG Problem, there're not willing to in anyway shape or form make state's or other wise divide up there country.
As for #4 the larger religouis group will vote for us to exit and then slouter the other's. Such is the history of the region.
which is way we have all the mistrust.
As for myself. i have never thought we should have started this. But it's over oil, watch 15 yrs we'll be there again or still.

The only hope I see out of this mess is a division of the country along the lines of current population and ethnic, religious viewpoints. Where any one of the three predominant groups are in the majority and in control of society, that would be their state, and same with the other two. A similar situation as it is in our country, only it would be with more local control. Then they could have their civil war as long as they choose. Our leaders said we would not be involved in an Iraq Civil War. Yet, that is precisely where we are today. Their government is now a joke---We must get out and soon.
Its worse in many ways than Vietnam.

It sounds like you have not been keeping up with the news.

The Iraqi people voted in UN certified election for the form of government they desired. The choose their present form of government then elected a Parliament to represent them.

The fact of the matter is that the Iraqi people have chose their future. Why are you siding with the terrorist who want to deny the Iraqi the form of government they chose?

the problem I have with this whole question is in the phrase"keep in mind we want them to be etc., etc., etc....". I dont think Americans have the right to decide how the Iraqis will govern themselves. This war has destroyed any semblance of civilization in that country, the result is a clusterf*ck the likes of which we havent seen since Vietnam. IMO the only sane plan of action now is to try and help the differing factions of this civil war sit down at the table and hammer out a way to co-exist, and really I dont believe the Iraqis want us involved in ANY resolutions at this point, they just want us out of their country asap.

Separate the political factions into states? Just how many US troops do you want to send to accomplish such a task?

In response to your comment "Note if they voted to have us leave it would give us an excuse to bow out gracefully even if the whole situation went to s*^& after we left.", I would like to comment the following:

Why did you get into the situation if you don't have the balls to finish the task you started? Now you're looking at ways to chicken out!! The whole world is laughing on you. Shame on you Americans! HAHAHA!!! ROTFL!!!

"Keep in mind we want them to be governed by the people and for the people."

What a novel idea, I wonder why we don't try that here in the good old USA.
