God Himself will show you. The Holy Spirit Who gave the words is the Interpreter and Explainer.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

He it is Who will show you of Christ and open your understanding.

Ask and wait upon God.

Since Scripture interprets Scripture the best book is the Bible itself.

Two books that would be useful in using the Bible are i) A concordance & ii) The Treasury of Scripture, which is a book of cross references of Bible verses.

The Holy Spirit can teach you what you need to know about proverbs after all the Wisdom mentioned in Proverbs is inspired by God alone. The Bible clearly states that God's sheep will hear his voice. What this means is that if you belong to the Lord you will be taught by him. The Bible will also tell you to study the Word and that the Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you into all his Truth. The word of God states, "You shall know the Truth and the truth shall set you free."

You might be surprised at how many different opinions there are on what things mean. Any study you do will be baised towards the beleifs of those whose work you are reading, so in choosing study material, you should first consider whether you want to understand better your own belief system, or someone else's. There is a site that has some good commentary on proverbs here: http://www.letgodbetrue.com/proverbs/index.htm

Hi! There is an awesome free downloadable course called "Creative Bible Study Methods" at this website:

http://www.harvestime.org/EnglishCurriculum.htm
(It explains the themes of the various sections of books of the Bible, as well as suggestions on how to study it. There are other free courses at that site as well. They are on the left side of the page.)

The website of "Communion with God Ministries" also has some excellent resources on it for understanding the Bible. If you go to the link below, you can scroll down to the "Free Articles" and get the one called "How to Receive Revelation Knowledge"

http://www.cwgministries.org/Free-Christian-Books-and-Articles.htm

The same site has a free download called "Through the Bible." (I think it is kind-of similar to the course I mentioned at the other site.) It's at:
http://www.cwgministries.org/7-How-to-Master-Your-Bible.htm
(This site has a lot of other really good resources as well, which you might like, and a lot of them are free.)

I also found this page specifically dealing with Proverbs:
http://www.gotquestions.org/Book-of-Proverbs.html

God made us and He knows what we can and can't do. He doesn't hold us accountable for things He knows we aren't able to do.

But God does want us to grow closer to Himself—and one of the ways we do this is through His Word, the Bible. As its truth takes root in our lives, it begins to change us from within—which is one reason God gave it to us. He also gave us His Word to guide us and show us how He wants us to live. The Bible rightly says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105).

This is why I encourage you to make the Bible part of your daily life. Don't worry about what you can't do; focus instead on what you can do—and then do it. Even if you read only a paragraph or two each day, you still will learn more of God's love for you. You might begin with one of the Gospels (using a modern translation you can understand), or with the Psalms (the "hymn book" of the Bible).

Remember too that we learn the Bible not just by reading it for ourselves, but by hearing it preached and taught. Ask God to give you an attentive mind in church each week. Most of all, ask God to help you not only understand what the Bible says, but obey it. The Bible says, "Do not merely listen to the word. ... Do what it says" (James 1:22).

there is a book that teaches "WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY TEACHES" It will take you to the Bible so you can learn for yourself what the Bible teaches, don't be fooled by all those know it all people

(1 Corinthians 1:18-21) 18 For the speech about the torture stake is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is God’s power. 19 For it is written: “I will make the wisdom of the wise [men] perish, and the intelligence of the intellectual [men] I will shove aside.” 20 Where is the wise man? Where the scribe? Where the debater of this system of things? Did not God make the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness of what is preached to save those believing.

(1 Corinthians 1:26-31) 26 For YOU behold his calling of YOU, brothers, that not many wise in a fleshly way were called, not many powerful, not many of noble birth; 27 but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put the wise men to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put the strong things to shame; 28 and God chose the ignoble things of the world and the things looked down upon, the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are, 29 in order that no flesh might boast in the sight of God. 30 But it is due to him that YOU are in union with Christ Jesus, who has become to us wisdom from God, also righteousness and sanctification and release by ransom; 31 that it may be just as it is written: “He that boasts, let him boast in Jehovah.”

this tells about ;those ultra righteous. Go to www.watchtower.org & choose contact us, then request a visit the book is free

It's not the Bible you need to know, it is Christ.

For one contends with the other and you will become confused like most Bible thumping believers if you drench your mind with other voices that have not always been inspired or endorsed by God.

Read the Gospels and in particular Jesus' words. Not commentaries about him or the doctrines of men. Feed on the bread of life not second hand mouldy bread.

The New Living Translation can be purchased as a Life Application Study Bible. It will make Proverbs and other sections very very clear to you.

Every Christian Bookstore probably has a copy. Or you can google "New Living Translation" and find the website.

A Strong's Concordance and a Brown Driver Briggs lexicon. A book about the customs of Bible times would be good too.

If you do get a "Message" Bible, be aware that it doesn't always give you the full, nor necessarily the correct, text. Try using the Message, King James Version and a good commentary together.
