If you can't beat em join em is what I always say Woot woot margaritas or Jim Beam or Beer... Or you can start an intervention with him and all of his family and friends. Sit him down and tell him he is drinking too much if it is a problem for him and he doesn't realize it. I mean some people drink alot and it probably doesn't affect their lives whereas other people can drink too much and it causes problems like driving drunk all the time and drinking so much that their whole life is involved around alcohol. Look at his life and see if it really is a problem or he is just enjoying a few beers and it isn't hurting anything let him enjoy himself. If he only drinks one day a week and he drinks alot that one day then sets it down the rest of the week or even just a few days a week and the rest of the week he leaves it alone it shouldn't be considered a problem. If he is going to work or school and doing well in both areas then I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Hope I helped

ok, if you seriously care for him - may I suggest you try to figure/find out what is the root/motive for him to drink [I'm assuming alchohol-like products here].
People - men, women and those who are confused with their physical gender, all [let's just count the really hardcore insane ones out of the picture, yah?] don't do anything for no reason.
Find out why is he drinking?
Is it be'coz he's just trying to 'get away' from reality?
Is it be'coz he's just addicted to the feel-good drowsie feeling he gets whenever he drinks?
Is it be'coz he's lacking in his own self-esteem to the point of disliking his current self, thus try his hardest best to drink his memory of it away?
Is it be'coz it makes him look macho and cool?!
Is it.................... ?!
The possibilities are endless. At least it appears endless till you find out what instigates or motivates him to drink in the first place. Solve the root that motivates/instigates him to drink, and you solve the drinking. Sounds easy, no? Of course it's easy - AFTER you figure out the hard part - the motivation/instigation root.

If after going through all these thought and it's still giving you headaches/heartaches [and possibly other sores], you need to communicate with him - before he drinks or when he's sober. No, you don't need to scream, shriek or shout. Just talk.

If he chooses not to communicate with you [and if you still wish to make this relationship work out nicely for both of you], find out from his friends/'clicks' what's the matter with him.

Well have you told him to stop? If you have many times and he still hasn't listened to you, dump him. Why would you want a boyfriend that doesn't listen to you? If he doesn't listen to you, then he probably doesn't like you.

Clear the way for him to go to the toilet.
Should you be allowing him to drink all of that water?!

All you can do right now is talk to him about it, because he is not going to really stop until he is ready to stop, good luck.
