If you found 2 baby doves then you need to call your Fish And Game department and arrange to take the doves to one of the authorized Wildlife Rehabilitaters.
It is illegal to take in wild birds even to save their life! Save yourself a lot of trouble, and give the birds a real chance to survive by turning them in !!

STOP! Baby doves DON'T EAT WORMS!!!!! Baby dove need to eat "crop milk" which is produced by the parents. They will never eat worms in their entire life - pigeons and doves are seed eaters.

First of all, you need to determine how old they are. If they are still pinkish and mostly naked, they are very fragile and can die easily without warmth and food. If they have all their feathers, they are probably fledgelings and although they don't need much heat anymore, they still need food. A fledgeling should be put back where it was found. Even if it was on the ground, the parents are keeping a close eye on it. They know where they are at all times, and still feed them. If they are nestlings (still bald in some places or completely pink) they need to be put back in the nest immediately!

If you need to feed them until you can put them back, or if you can't find the nest, you need to go get a powdered baby bird formula called EXACT. They sell it at the pet store, but it's a little expensive. It's worth it though, because it's the ONLY thing you can feed them that will give them proper nutrition. You need to mix it like it says on the package with warm water, and feed it to the babies. The best way to feed baby doves is to poke a hole in the side of a paper dixie cup, and fill the cup with formula up to the hole. Put the chick's beak in the hole and then tip the cup so that it flows over thier beak. If the chick is hungry, he'll gulp it down like there's no tomorrow - you'll be able to see his chest swell up with food. When it stops gulping, take his beak out and wash him off, and repeat with the other chick. Doves eat like this because in the wild, the mother or father dove would put it's beak over the chicks beak and then vomit up the food. Doves do not "gape" and hold their mouth open waiting for you. They expect the food to be delivered to them, like the parents would do.

If they don't have all their feathers yet, they'll need a heat source too. A heating pad on LOW works, as well as an infrared lightbulb used for reptiles. They need to stay between 80 and 90 degrees at all times. If they have all their feathers, then they don't need the heat unless it's really cold.
No matter what age they are, they should have warm towels to snuggle up with, and hold in the heat.

If they're really young, be prepared to feed them every 20-30 minutes or more. If they are older, once an hour or every 2 hours should be fine.

At about 4-6 weeks old, they should start weaning themselves. You'll notice them pecking at things like seeds, rocks, ink blots or whatever looks yummy. Now you need to put in a small bowl of water with them, and some seeds for them to practice with. Keep feeding them the formula, though, until they are completely feeding themselves and don't want the formula. They will openly refuse it when they are ready.

At that same age, they will also start leaning to fly, so you might have to buy a pretty large cage, and still let them out a few times a day for exercise and practice.

At about 2 months old, they should be entirely independent, and able to eat, drink, and fly, all by themselves. Now you can start getting them ready for release. Good luck! And feel free to email me with any more questions - I'd be glad to help - I raise pigeons for a living.

Baby doves do NOT eat worms...they eat crop milk from their parents. Oh, no, did you take them out of the nest?? Please take these doves to a licensed wildife rehabilitator so they can get the proper care they need from a knowledgeable, experienced rehabilitator.

If these birds are mostly feathered..they are fledglings, birds that have left their nest on their own and whose parents are feeding and caring for them. Birds leave the nest BEFORE they can fly. If this is the case..put the birds back where you found them, the parnets may be searching for them. You can put them in a tree or scrub to keep them relatively safe from predators. If these birds are mostly bald..then you can look for a nest where you found them and replace them into the nest, or if a nest cannot be found or reached..you need to take these birds to a wildlife rehab for their best chance of survival. Keep in mind, it is illegal for you to to raise these birds on your own, all native birds are protected by law. Look for a rehab near you here:

I don't think Doves eat worms- I believe they eat grass seeds & grains like THAT. Call your local pet store, or look it up Online here... It shouldn't be hard to find out...

Most Wal-Marts sell them in the fishing section in a refrigerated cooler and most sporting goods stores sell them.
