My sugar was 70, and I don't know what my iron was. My family has a history of diabetes and my mother is hypoglycemic. I used to take vitamins with iron, but it made me sick so I had to stop. I'm 19 and work in a restaurant which makes food not so appealing, and my appetite has decreased. Which I know is why they are both low, but I know I need to fix this. Any suggestions, what foods are good for me to eat for both of them??? Thanks!!

Didn't your doctor prescribe any type of advice or medication? You need to be careful with low blood sugar. You could faint or even die if your blood sugar level drops too low and 70 is getting pretty low.
Your lack of appetite is a sign of hypoglycemia. This is dangerous. You should be monitoring your blood sugar levels with a blood sugar monitor at home.
Keep some fast-acting sugar (hard candy, etc.) on hand to eat when you feel faint or dizzy from low blood sugar. If you are in that state, drink a glass of orange juice right away.
You need to eat regularly whether you feel like it or not. Follow the rules for proper nutrition: Fruits, vegetables, dairy, lean meats, whole grains...avoid fats.
Low iron means you should eat red meats, green leafy vegetables and iron-fortified cereals. Having low iron levels will make you tired.
The low blood sugar level is most dangerous. You must not go without eating for long periods of time. Eat breakfast. Drink a glass of milk before bed.
Your doctor really should have provided this information for you. Visit websites about low blood sugar and recommended diets.
Be careful and take care.

Sugar at 70 is not that low... I have it at 78. For the sugar, just make sure you eat about every 3 hours or so just to keep your sugar levels constant. If you go a while without eating, your blood sugar will hit rock bottom and you can pass out unconscious which will mean you're hypoglycemic. So... make sure you eat 3 nice meals and snacks in between. As for the iron, that can turn into anemia. You need to address this ASAP because it can get so much worse, especially around menstruation. Low iron levels can be modified with iron supplements... they are sold at supermarkets and drug stores. You said you took vitamins with iron and made you sick... Well, try iron supplements (iron by itself, not just a multivitamin) and make sure you take it with a meal and a full glass of water (that's super important). Vitamins and supplements will make you sick if you take them on an empty stomach and not enough water. So, eat your snacks every 3 hours and get yourself some iron supplements!! Best of luck*

Because you have a family history, you should be followed up by your MD only. You need to call & speak to his nurse, she can have your presciption vitamins & diet ready for you to pick up. Follow their instructions to the letter to get yourself healthy.Report any problems with the vitamins etc. It's not a big deal now,but it can be. Take care. SW RNP

What are carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are one of the three main classes of food and a source of energy. Sugars, starches, and fiber are all types of carbohydrates. Technically, carbohydrates are any compound containing carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, with twice as many hydrogens as oxygens. Carbohydrates are the main energy source for the body and the only direct energy source for the brain. Carbohydrates can be found in varying amounts in fruits, vegetables, grain foods, and many dairy products. Carbohydrates are also found in ingredients in many other foods prepared at home, eaten at a restaurant, or purchased at grocery stores.
Sugars come in several forms. The simplest sugars are called monosaccharides. Examples of these simple sugars are glucose, fructose, and galactose. When two of these sugars join together they are called disaccharides. The most common disaccharide is sucrose or table sugar. Table sugar is made up of equal amounts of glucose and fructose that are joined together by chemical bonds. Starches and fiber are typically made up of many simple sugars joined together and are referred to as polysaccharides.
Iron-Rich Foods
Iron is an essential mineral that helps blood carry oxygen to all the cells in your body. Without adequate iron, you may develop anemia, which may make you feel tired.
Iron is found in many animal foods and some plant foods. Iron found in animal foods is absorbed well by the body. Plant sources are not absorbed as well, but can play an important role in adding iron to your diet. Small amounts of animal protein and/or vitamin C-rich foods (citrus, strawberries, green pepper, and melon) can increase the amount of iron absorbed.
If your healthcare provider prescribes an iron supplement, it is best taken with water or juice high in vitamin C, such as orange juice or an enriched vitamin C juice drink. Coffee, tea, and milk should be avoided for one to two hours, as they can interfere with iron absorption.
