What files?

Programs would have to be INSTALLED.

Your data files go with the programs that you own or reinstall.

You see, Windows 98 is an operating system. Windows Vista is an operating system. The programs that you have, such as Word, Excel and others use specific file types. Each file is associated with a program, but not the system. So you have to THINK about what programs that you need for the kind of files that you have.

Yes, you should be able to Copy your old files to a USB Thumb drive from your old Windows 98 computer. Then Copy from the thumb drive to a new Windows Vista computer. But install the software that you need to read these.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

If you're referring to files such as documents, you can transfer them from your win98 to vista. You'll need a usb 2.0 file transfer cable such as belkin.

Note: The belkin software may not work on win98 so be sure to check before you purchase any file transfer cable.

Err... are you trying to transfer all your old files from a 98 to a Vista? You don't need to convert anything. Just make sure you note that all Help files (you know, the ones that aren't text documents) aren't compatible and won't open.
