Has not the slightest idea what to do in a kitchen except for using fresh herbs. At this point she is not being creative; she is simply inventing weird combinations of food and presenting them as "healthful" even though they contain loads of cheese and the ubiquitous EVOO extra virgin olive oil. Come on, since when does bacon need the addition of olive oil? She has pimped herself out so much as to lose all credibility. Come on, how are you "concerned" with childhood obesity and at the same time endorse Dunkin Donuts? She has never provided any nutrition info for any of her recipes and there is a reason for that.

Don't bother with any of her paperback un-indexed books. Spend some $$ on something real and genuine, like The Gourmet Cookbook. It's over 1,000 pages, has an index and table of contents, and I picked it up at powells.com for $15.

Oh yeah, she also apparently doesn't know or appreciate the first thing about cleanliness or food safety. Be afraid, be VERY afraid!

Also: re
I agree with Cruisepuppy - Julia Child was a genius and exceptional.

And Julia Child accomplished what she did by taking TIME to make sure everything was perfect. Sort of the antithesis of RR who constantly invokes you to "eyeball it." Well guess what honey,I did and you dont even register on the scale (unless you've been eating your own food, LOL).

An excellent biography of Julia Child was published by her nephew within the last year. I highly recommend it. Anyone who reads it will instantly see the difference between them.

Believe me honey, RR ain't no Julia Child. LOL

I would not go that far. I think she has a lot of talent, obviously enjoys cooking, but the true genius was Julia Child. The lady could make a rock look good, taste good and laugh if it didn't come out perfectly. I had the thrill to meet many of the best chefs in the world in the cooking school I worked in. They all would make Rachael look a rank amateur. But before we retire her apron here, remember she is not doing what Julia did, rather what the average american family needs. Speedy food. Am I fan of it? No. I like the classics.

Are you kidding? As an official member of the rrsux group, I could state reasons going from a to z as to why I don't like her. But the biggest reason is that her food stinks, and anyone who says they've tried ALL her recipes and think they are great is either lying or paid to say so.

Any "cook" who uses that much EVOO or cheese in "healthy" recipes should be shot on sight. Poisoning her dog with foods like onions, garlic, dairy products and spices should prove to dog lovers that she's a moron. If you don't know what foods your dog should avoid, LOOK IT UP! There are plenty of internet sites that can tell you what foods dogs can't eat.

BTW, any "recipes" that call for someone to put bacon inside a couple of paper towels, or that need to tell you what section of the grocery store to find cookie mixes are made for morons, which seems to be the core audience she's geared toward. More of the dumbing down of America, thanks to the Roach.

I'm not a professional chef by any means, but seeing people drool over stupid crap like hers makes me wonder why we don't do selective dispopulation.

You know, I used to enjoy her - she was only on like once a day and you had to go looking for her. She was perky, cute, and kinda chunky cuz she actually ate real food. Then something happened (like she made a deal with satan) and not only was she everywhere, she had been done-over by a stylist (or a minion of the Dark One) and was all makeup, hair dye and celery-and-water-diet skinny. She dialled up the perky-o-meter and became more annoying than Katie Couric on crack. She's ubiquitous. The talk show, 18 shows on TFN, looking at me from a Triscuit box with "I owe Beelzebub my soul" crazy eyes...
And the fact that she would leave 2% tips on "$40 A Day" has always driven me insane. Great - stay on a budget but don't bone the waitress in the process. I can do it in under $40 a day - it's called fast food and vending machines. Sheesh.
Yeah, so to make a long story short (too late!) I used to love her, but now I want her to drop off the face of the earth. That would be "delish".

Rachael Ray may not be a trained chef, but her passion for cooking is something many chefs probably envy in secret. Being a professional chef, I can say you can learn all the food formulas and cooking procedures there are, but the focus and care you put into your creations will ultimately show how much you really love food no matter how much training . Like painting, passion truly separates the novice from the master when it comes to cooking. Rachael Ray has done extremely well for herself without professional chef training, riding on her dynamic personality and real desire to make good food.

No.

She has people who've helped market her but she is not a genius.

I used to like her 4-5 years ago when there was more variety in her recipes and she wasn't so loud. Now she is way too overexposed. Everything she makes is either a Stoup or Burger, with way too much olive oil or cheese. Her talk show is obnoxious. She interrupts the guests and tries to be sympathetic, and it comes off fake. She just doesn't seem sincere.

I love Rachel Ray. I think she is an awesome cook; every recipe of hers that I have tried was delicious. A lot of the professional chefs are critical of her because she is not a "real chef" in that she is not trained, she is what is known as a cook; I think they're just jealous. Anyway most people that are great in the kitchen are not trained. I love her personality too. She seems like a person that I could hang out with and have a good time. I love her. But for some reason some people don't like her. There are a lot of Rachel Ray hate sites out there. But I don't care, she's still my girl.

Ummm... no. Her meals are not healthy. She had a recipe for microwaving bacon, which is no healthier than fast food, and is really not a recipe (more like a tip -- and a lousy one of that). The fact that she markets herself so well is not so much a testament to her potential genius, but a sad statement that the American public is willing to settle for "approachable" mediocrity. What a joke.

I've been cooking like her all of my life. There is nothing she is doing that isn't as old as the hills.

What I like about her is that she is re-introducing the fact that healthy eating can taste delicious every day.

We live in a junk food type 2 diabetes society. When I was growing up, a fat kid was a rare site, and girls didn't have pot bellies as teens.

Thanks McDonalds and Dorritos and fat free junk foods that make you fatter once you put it into your body. Thanks a lot microwave oven and hot pockets and ready made pop and fresh. Thanks Dominoes, and dairy industry causing boys to grow boobs from the hormones in milk.

No, really, Rachel Ray is hired to talk about and show these things to the public because she is a personality and good at it. I don't think she is a genius.

I can't stand her (although she was rather likable when she first started) but I'll be objective: 1) She can't bake, she can't make coffee, and she can't make toast. Is she to be trusted with anything more complicated involving food? 2) She gets a big fat zero for general knowledge. What really peeves me is the way she pronounces "dulce de leche". You don't have to be a genius to know this is a Spanish term meaning literally "sweet of milk." The "c" in dulce is not pronounced "ch" as in Italian, otherwise the "h" in leche would not be necessary. But she's too dense to make the association. If she thinks "dulce" is Italian and pronounces it as such, why doesn't she pronounce "leche" as if it were Italian ("leh-keh")? Being Italian, as she constantly reminds us she is, she should know that the Italian equivalent is "dolce di latte" "dohl-che di lah-teh". 3) She wears black to look slim, yet cuts the outfit in half with a swath of white t-shirt sticking out of the black sweater, or wears big fat belts. She greases a baking pan BEFORE lining it with foil. Give her another big fat zero for logic and common sense. 4) She has no concept of basic nutrition and calories. I could go on and on. If she's a genius at anything, she's sure hiding it.
