I only did debt collection briefly, for a medical office, but people who were abusive were far more likely to get my calls late, early, at dinner, every 15 minutes, etc. because they'd acted like that.

It's pretty unpleasant having to call people up and remind them about the money they really do owe. Yelling at me doesn't make the debt any less.

I much preferred the people who would promise to pay two dollars a week toward their three thousand dollar bill, knowing it could never be paid off in their lifetimes. In fact, if they kept those two dollar payments coming, we never turned them over to a collection agency.

"...debt collectors have no punishing power?"....

You've got to be kidding me? Sounds like your friend is just another of those idiot debt collectors that doesn't have clue!

No power? They can destroy a person's credit rating and ruin their lives. They can prevent people from continuing with their lives for 7 years!

No power? They can go to court, get a judgment and take all the creditors money! They can repo their cars, freeze bank accounts, garnish wages!

No power? You've got to be kidding me.

in case you rather need to barter a deal, you ought to consult from the unique creditor. The creditors don' have the two ability or willingness to do away with the adverse checklist. AND collector brokers are paid on commissions and the business enterprise itself in trouble-free terms gets paid in the event that they deliver about mutually from you so they're going to inform you something, even lies to get the debt paid PLUS a lot extra. yet another factor, if the debt isn't that previous, you are able to desire to in all threat be merely coping with the collections dept of the comparable business enterprise and not an exterior collector (this can be the case if that's the 1st letter from the collector). if so, you are able to tell them what you % to ensue and ask what they might do. finally, if the debt is rather previous yet no longer 7 years and you do no longer % to or can;;t pay the completed factor, i could warning you. In 7 years that debt ought to fall off. yet, any verbal replace with the business enterprise can restart the tolling of the 7 year clock. so which you will merely get some funds and immediately call to analyze on an previous invoice that replaced into approximately to fall off besides. Bam! Seven years starts returned. Its a lot to think of roughly. game: you're incorrect. The get right of entry to is bumped off out of your credit checklist and could be carried out by regulation. Now, while you're making a ethical argument approximately paying, it quite is advantageous. yet I make no judgments and merely answer the question to the appropriate of my ability. besides, assume this man or woman has honestly no funds to pay this. there is not any debtors penal complex interior the U.S. What happens then once you are able to no longer pay? no longer something. i do no longer understand the writers total subject so i'm no longer likely to maintain honest, in all threat powerful information from him. FYI And, the reaction straight away under is appropriate. the only thank you to have leverage is to withhold fee and then call to barter. yet, returned, this verbal replace will restart the 7 year era.

If you simply paid your bills, those collectors wouldn't be calling you. It sounds like you have a lot of them calling. They tend to get nastier the older your debt gets.

You should be more polite. It you actually piss the collector off, he might just turn you over to legal where they sue you, get a judgment, garnish your wages and attach your bank account. Then see who's laughing at who.
