I was raised with a mostly Catholic heritage...though, as a family we didn't talk much about God or pray. We did go to mass every once in awhile, but I knew next to nothing about the Bible and about Jesus.

In college, I became an atheist.

It was when I read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in attempt to prove it all wrong, Jesus a fraud, and "save" Christians from their ridiculous fears of going to some mythological place they called "hell"... and that is when God revealed Himself to me.

What am I to do now?

I cannot deny God, for He has revealed Himself to me.

...consider the following before you sever ALL possible paths:
Consider the following books:
"More Than a Carpenter" by Josh McDowell
"Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis
and "The Case for...." books by Lee Strobel

At least go to a bookstore and skim them through.

This is a HUGE question, and the answer is quite complicated. The answer is somewhat mid-range philosophy. But here goes:

1. The problem of evil
2. The moral argument
3. Cosmological arguments
4. Design arguments
5. The anthropic-teleological argument
6. Arguments from common consent, authority and religious experience
7. Argument from desire and absurdity
8. Non-evidential arguments - Pascal's wager and the right to believe.

I don't have to time nor the inclination to elaborate.
Read the book, "The Case for God" by Peter S. Williams.

AND the fossil record is another reason. WHAT DOES IT SHOW?

Traditional evolutionary theory predicts a fossil record that would contain:
• Simple life forms gradually appearing with similar predecessors.
• Simple life forms gradually changing over time into more-complex forms.
• Countless transitional links between kinds of creatures.
• Beginnings of and partially completed features such as new limbs, bones and organs.

The Biblical account of creation predicts a fossil record that would contain:
• Complex life forms suddenly appearing with no evolutionary predecessors.
• Complex life forms multiplying “after their kinds” (Genesis 6:20), but with limited variety within those kinds.
• No transitional links between kinds of creatures.
• No partial features such as new limbs, bones and organs; all parts are complete and fully functional.

After years of study and research, what does the fossil record show?
• Complex life forms suddenly appearing with no evolutionary predecessors.
• Complex life forms multiplying “after their kinds,” but with limited variety within each species.
• No transitional links between kinds of creatures.
• No partial features such as new limbs, bones and organs; all parts are complete and fully functional.

So the Bible was accurate with this. Just HOW did Moses know that 3500 years ago?

And yes, fulfilled prophecies. This was one of the reasons Sir Isaac Newton believed in God. Yes, I know that the 'theory' of evolution was not well-known nor accepted back then by many.

I just cannot stop without mentioning just one more thing. You did ask why I believe in God. While the Bible is NOT a science book, it does contain many scientific facts that modern science is just beginning to catch up with. As one example, consider that circumcision is commanded to be done on the EIGHT day, even if that day falls on a High Day (a double Sabbath - when an annual Sabbath falls on the weekly Sabbath, somewhat like when Christmas falls on a Sunday). Why the EIGHT day? When a baby is born, his blood-clotting ability gradually increases while his disease-fighting ability gradually decreases. Based on linear programming, the optimal time for circumcision is the EIGHT day. Would somebody please explain to me how that was known 3 500 years ago when modern medical science learned about this within the last 30 years? AND THAT'S JUST ONE EXAMPLE.

I must stop here.

because God - Jesus & the Holy Spirit are a alive moving force in my life, most people who say they are no longer christians have really walked away from a "religion"
like you said above (but now I see it as such a laughable religion)
the bible says" many will say Lord Lord (or "claim "to belong to him) but God will say " I never "knew" you"
when you truly "know" him you can never deny him , I'll stake my eternal soul on it.

All religions gather at the road that is set before pure awareness. Jesus is God, so are you, and so am I. God exists in each of us separately. Jesus was born purified/santified, the ideal human according to some. God lives outside the realm of time yet is aware of time. One moment I am looking at you and the next you are looking at me. It is true and false to say we are looking at eachother. Both of us are dreaming separate dreams yet in the same dream. Is it true to say that a person in your dream is still you? Nature is the plane, religion and science the roads. All roads lead to the same end that is the beginning. "Be still and know that I am God".....Buddha, "Emptiness is the best of all states." God is everything and he is no-thing. How much nothing can you put inside nothing: infinite/none. the 0 and the 1 that becomes girl and boy 2 (our current existence). 2 is from a DESIRE to not be alone, one comes from being content. 0 comes from realizing that you are not content but simply view it or are aware of that formation. The reverse order of complexity. Awareness is infinite/nothing, outside of time, omnipresent, omnipotent. Divine simplicity as it is called in christian doctrines. Before God IS (=) love/hate (before realization it is pure), It is above all things. Father son holy spirit....Mind, body, soul....They are just part of the everything that is within awareness's awareness.

Over the last 30 years I've been almost everywhere, either fighting or working disasters, and I've seen what people believe in and if it works. When the worst hits God hasn't let me down nor has he set me aside. God has always come through and has been right on time.

I am agnostic, I do not believe in the God described by religions ;that is a moron not a God.
I am open to the idea that a higher entity might exist, maybe one day we will be able to solve this mystery, in the mean while I stay open minded about it.

How come you don't believe? Is the better question. How can you not? Is an even better question. Why deny your faith and belief in something that you once believed in?
I love God,so much and I know that he loves me.He has blessed me with my wonderful children,he has given me my health,I have a job,I have a life and thats really all I need.

I KNOW he exists because I have an inexplainable love for Him and a feeling that only He can give me.
When I go outside and feel the wind on my face and embracing my fingertips, I believe it is God who brings all these wonders to me.
I feel a warmth in me given to me from God.
Just as you cannot "explain" love, you cannot "explain" God.
GOD is LOVE.
And I'm sorry that you no longer believe...

because God's love is the best feeling in the world.

1 Corinthians 15:21-22

'For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.'

Meaning: Those who live for the worldly pleasures, will then be told, 'Depart from Me you workers of eniquity, I never knew you.'

And for those who live for Christ, God will tell them, 'Enter in thou good and faithful servant in you I am well pleased.'

He's given you a choice, it's left up to you, He did not create everybody as robots to automatically follow Him, No, Created them to CHOOSE to WANT to Love, would you want someone to Love you against their Will? It'd be pretty boring existence would'nt it!!

But most importantly, He Loves you, that's why He gave you free will, and He sent His Only Son Jesus Christ to die just for you, so that you might have faith and accept that He loves you!

God bless!
