...then why not just wait until the last few seconds of life to get saved? I will have had His love all the way through, yes?

OK, I'll give you a hint, this is about the love of God, not about the opportunities that I'm supposedly missing.

...nor is it about getting saved now for "insurance purposes."

It's not in our power to "choose" when we are saved. God saves (or doesn't save) us according to His timetable.

First of all consider what the Bible has to say about believing that no matter what, one is saved. "Let him that thinks he has a firm position beware that he does not fall.”—1 Cor. 10:12. There is no changing the fact that we are all sinners thanks to Adam. As well, the scriptures remind us that our demonstrating faith is an ongoing process.... It does no good if a person starts out on a faithful course of obedience to God but fails to continue on it. He must remain faithful as long as he lives, even when his faithfulness brings the threat of death. “But he that has endured to the finish is the one that will be saved.”—Matt. 24:13.

For example, if you were outside on a very cold night warming yourself by a fire, would you let the flames dwindle and then die out? No. You would keep adding fuel to keep the fire burning bright and hot not wait till the last minute to try and revive this fire. That might mean the difference between surving the night or not, right?

God's love is a gift to us and like Bill Cosby said, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out and make another one that looks just like you." So if we believe that God loves us, and that we live each day of our lives in a manner that is in according to his commands, consider this thought: Romans 8:38, 39 says  For I am convinced that neither death nor life nor angels nor governments nor things now here nor things to come nor powers nor height nor depth nor any other creation will be able to separate us from God’s love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Why would we take the gift of God's love and put it to the test like that? Like was said in a previous answer - we don't know when the end of our life might be, right?

There is a major problem with your plan: You have no way of knowing when the "last few seconds" will be. You could be killed instantly in a car crash this afternoon. Do you have any guarantee of how long you will live? I don't and neither does anyone else.
It isn't totally about God loving you-He does unconditionally. It is also about you loving Him unconditionally and showing it by accepting His gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ and serving Him in your life.
He stands at the door and knocks-will you open the door and invite Him in. God bless you.

Ive heard this question before, I have a friend who believes the very same thing. I guess its akin to not having a true relationship and acknowledgement of God. If youre just saving your skin at the end, He will see right through it. Besides, its actually very simple, wonderful and easy once you get to know Him. Gods Peace

If you are only getting "saved" to go to heaven. You've got the wrong bus stop. If that's your reason, you aren't really serious about wanting to follow God, and ARE NOT going to get to meet me in heaven.

The point of getting "saved" is to experience the relationship here on earth. Plus, there is no magic prayer that "saves" you. Jesus said "follow Me." And that, was the only alter call He ever made.

So you can either follow Him, or not.

well sure you did...but you wouldn't have had the opportunity live secure in that knowledge nor would you have had the opportunity to "store up treasures" in his house for doing what he asked of you. ...and then there is that pesky little problem of not knowing when the last second of your life will come or whether you will be in any position at that time to make such a decision.

You always have God's Love, but don't you think He would like some genuine Love in return? He knows what is in your heart and denying Him until the last moment, when you knew the truth all along, is not genuine. That's a cop out and deceitful.

But when is the last few seconds of life? What if you die in your sleep.

More importantly, while you will have had His love, you will not have had his blessings. You will not have accomplished anything in His name. You will have missed out on the abundant life. You will have missed out on the blessed assurance and the peace that surpasses all understanding. You will, basically, have wasted your life.

How do you know the exact last few hours before you are going to die though? His love is always there but once we accept him then his love grows and as our relationship deepens with him his love grows even greater. So yes he loves all, but once you accept him and become saved his love begins to grow.

Because God wants to save you from wrong choices today.

When one is born of God, this is a spiritual birth because of the price Jesus paid. We are saved by being born of His Spirit & this is eternal life.

But we need to work out our salvation daily. Being obedient to the Holy Spirit direction. This is being saved daily from wrong choices. And the conscequences of them.

One example of one obeying God & saving more than himself... http://www.breakingchristiannews.com/articles/display_art_pf.html?ID=4302

How do you go about that? For example
1. How do you know when the last minute is
2. Since salvation is by faith, how do you prevent yourself from believing until the "last minute", and then all of a sudden force yourself to believe?

It's simply not doable.
