Even full time police officers don't get to take their cruisers home in my city.

These vehicles cost as much as $30,000 and more, with specialized equipment. Many of the patrol cars are operating 24 hours a day, except for maintainence.

Maybe in some small towns, it may be more practical to allow an officer, who may be called in for duty at any time, to have a cruiser parked in his driveway over night. But I haven't seen that since the old Andy Griffith Show.

Well if they are on shift routinely then yes. For instance lets say an officer gets hurt and is going to be out 4 weeks; and a reserve accepts a 4 week assignment to his \ her shift. Then yes it make sense because they are acting as a full time regular officer.

On the other side of the equation if they work 2 days a month voluntarily to get some hours in then no way.

I don't think any police officer should be taking home a patrol car...it is not for their personal use it is for work use

Absolutely not. Someone has to pay for those cars. It won't be me and my tax dollars.

No, they don't work full time, so no perks.
