The bible says that teachers and clerics need to be above reproach morally. It also warns us that those who pervert God's word are wolves in sheeps clothing and we should avoid them. So No I don't think a homosexual can really be a pastor.a poser perhaps but not a true servant of God.

You're absolutely right. How can he teach the Word of God if he doesn't live according to the Word?
He can't. People who try are called hypocrites, and when they are exposed, the church gets a black eye. Character Matters. Everyone who reads this has probably heard of Jimmy Swaggert and Jim and Tammy Bakker, and would put Billy Graham in a different category.
I have never seen or heard of a church where the flock outshines the leader, and that is why the leaders are expected to be exemplary. This principle holds true, whether you are talking about pastors, generals, or businessmen. This is why the Marine Corp motto is Follow Me.
God has laid out the requirements of church leaders in 1 Timothy 3, and in verse 2, the FIRST requirements listed are blameless AND THE HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE. That pretty much takes care of homosexuals and pedophiles. It is VERY unfortunate there are churches who call themselves Christian who have Pastors who are neither blameless nor the husband of one wife. This should tell anyone all they need to know about such churches.

John the Baptist

I agree totally!!!!! It is a contradiction of G-d himself. I further say this thing about the subject: All things that the Lord created and called "good", he commanded to reproduce. Two men or two women can't reproduce together by nature. There is a reason for this; IT IS AN ABOMONATION UNTO G-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two people of the same sex coming together in a physical relationship bring together curses, destruction, shame, and sickness to everybody who is around them!!!! Such a person does not need to be in a position to be called a "Christian Preacher" when the way they live is so against the Word of G-d. It's the same as putting a practicing axe murder in the same position and calling it good!!! It's still a lie.

Leaving aside the fact that various Christian groups discern "the Word" as it pertains to homosexuality quite differently...

You don't specify whether you mean a celibate gay pastor or a pastor in a partnership. Many denominations do not ordain "practicing" gay people but few refuse to ordain one who is celibate. It would be hard to argue that someone who abstains from sexual relations is sinning.

However, the Roman Catholic Church is one example of a church that does not ordain even celibate gay people. Despite imacatholic2's comments above, the 2005 "Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Homosexual Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Seminary and to Holy Orders" bars gay men from Roman Catholic seminaries, regardless of sexual history, with a few narrow exceptions.

What does it matter if he is gay or not? It is a sin but does that exclude him because he is gay? I HATE how the church turns away gay people!! Imyself am not gay but it is wrong. That stuff is a sin and is forgotten just like any other. God see's in black and white it is wrong for you to judge someone who is gay he has the temptation if he DOESN'T do it he hasn't sinned. Just like stealing you may be tempted but if you choose not to do it you have not sinned. So he's gay o well, does he preach the good word? Gay people should be invited to church they can sit next to the adulterers, pedofiles, liars. thieves, bigots, coveters, pimps, hoes and even the murderers! One sin is not greater than another being gay doesn't signify that he or she is of higher sin than anyone else. Fix your own car before you go fixing other peoples!

I will be honest with you. This is something that I have struggled with for years. For many years, I believed that I was bisexual because of an abusive relationship with a man that literally put me under his spell. I believed what he told me. He had me question my religion and my own sexuality. I never want to be in that position again. However, In hindsight, I do believe that the word of God tells us that homosexual activity is wrong. However, I would debate with any good woman or man about being gay being a sin or not. I believe that if someone has feelings toward the same sex, that they are able to be free of the desire to act upon them. Just as someone can be free of the desire to have sex before marriage.

I do not think that someone that is a practicing homosexual should be a pastor. But, honestly, it really isn't up to me to make a final judgment for someone. It is something that is up to God. In some way or another, we ALL fall short to living up to the word of God. In some way, we ALL fall. Scripture tells us that. There are many pastors that are overweight. Gluttony is a sin. There are pastors that have lied before. That is a sin as well. What about the ones that are divorced or have cheated on someone in their lifetime? There are a myriad of sins we could use to disqualify someone from being a pastor. The truth is, not a one of us is disqualified from the grace that God gives us.

Such a "pastor" is not a true Christian, no matter what he calls himself. There are many false prophets in the "churches", so don't be surprised by these guys. They're fakes and planted there by the devil.

It depends on whether he is celibate or not.

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

He can be a pastor but those he leads will fall into a ditch just as he has.
