There is no such thing as a toy Chihuahua. But Chihuahuas are FANTASTIC dogs and are way more cuter than a fat, chubby, snorting, farting, flat faced Pug! Yuck lol Pugs are also known to be very lazy and can have respitory and breathing problems just like any flat faced breed. Chihuahuas have some of the best peronalities. They are very much like people. I wouldn't trade mine for the world!

Personally, between those 2 I would go with Chihuahua. I'm a petsitter and there probably are very few dog or cat breeds I haven't pet sitted.
Pugs cannot take warm temps well. Many pugs I pet sit for need their noses wiped regularly and some experience serious breathing problems as a breed that can require additional $ for medical expenses.
I personally have found Chihuahua to have more personality than pugs.

I have never owned a chihuahua so I can't give an opinion about that breed. The pug my daughter has is a great family dog, BUT does shed like crazy. Just as an FYI in case that is something you want to consider. Best of luck in finding your new baby!!

First let me say there is no such thing as a toy chihuahua. The chihuahua only comes in two types and that is short and long hair. The reallly small chis often are runts and have a lot of health problems. the show standard is 4-7 pound and I would suggest if just a pet get a 5-7 pound ( at maturity) .
Yes they can be a little nippy but since you have a lot of time if you take them out a lot and socialize them they aren't.
I have never had problems training chihuahuas.
I ahve also had pugs i have had more problems with the training with them. Tehy are also known for their respitory problems due to the pushed in faces as well as they can easily get eye injuries due to the bulging eyes. they also seem to be extremely gasy and they also snore a lot my in the beginning kept me up at night with the snoring.
I vote for teh chihuahua hands over any pug but again that's my opinion and experience.

I have both chihuahuas and a pug ,chihuahuas do bark more, pugs do shed alot howhever and require alot of cleaning their ears their faces around wrinkles and can also be very sloppy when drinking water they dribble the water everywhere they can get pretty smelly from all of this if not cleaned regulary they just require alot more care they are quite fun and a lover. The chihuahuas are very loveable as well and be very protective of their owners .just socialize very well and this makes a big difference.

Well a Toy chihuahua is not a good choice if you plan to have children. If so, then the pug is the best choice. They snort and snuffle a lot but they seem to be more inclined to seek seclusion if there is too much stimuli. (including kids)

toy chihuahua is redundant- all chis are toy dogs- if you mean an extra small chi I would tell you bad idea, Chis are already small and when people breed the runts to make smaller dog they often have a lot of health problems and are very delicate. Pugs also have alot of health problems due to their short nose.
I recommend adopting a dog- pure or mixed breed from your local shelter. check petfinder.com for lots of cute dogs needing homes.

i have a Chihuahua and its very hard to train they pee on every thing and are very exiting other than that i love my baby hes fun cheers you up loves to play and is so funny
i think you should get a pug because Chihuahuas are very common but like you said you have a lot of time on your hands so you may want the Chihuahua if your a Bord person you may want to get the more exiting one (Chihuahuas)

Are you planning to have kids anytime soon? Have a Chihuahua is almost like having a kid, they are very demanding and very protective of their owners. They are lovable to have just be careful not to trample on it, because they are small dogs really small dogs. The choice obviously is yours to make as you will be spending alot of time with it. All the best.
