or perhaps it was man! Perhaps hell was created as a natural consequence of the so-called "original sin". If Adam and Eve had no knowledge of good or evil, then perhaps their decision to acquire that knowledge is what led to the creation (or perhaps the evolution) of hell!
I'm a Christian and I'm not convinced that hell is a "place" or something that was "invented". Hell is separation from God...that could be a place or it could be a state of nothingness...it could be anything. It is even possible that being buried in a box in the ground on earth is hell (can you imagine how much it would suck if you were aware of it...anyone remember that episode of CSI when Nick was buried)!!! ...and some of the images of the future in the Terminator movies looked like some of the images of hell people have tried to paint for me. Who knows what would become of the earth if (and when IMHO) Christ returns to take his followers to live in his Father's house (heaven)...the book of Revelation certainly paints a pretty ugly picture of what the earth will be like during the end times (earthquakes, floods, famine, disease, war, lawlessness, etc...).

Who invented God and the Devil? All three were/are 'invented'. The only exist in peoples imaginations.

Hell in Hebrew is translated She'ol, which means "man's common grave".
so when we all die we all "go to hell". Because it's the actual grave that we're buried in.
There is no "fire and brimstone" ok? So the Devil and his demons are not in hell... they are here on earth with us cuasing distruction.

hell is a separation from God. The devil will be sent there because he was cast out from heaven, through pride and rebellion. it was created especially for him.
