I am looking to buy a cooking appliance for my apartment. I have a stove and a oven, but a lot of days I am too tired to mess with them and I end up eating out. I've put on some weight and I know it's because of my poor diet, so I'm looking for alternatives.

The George Foreman grill would be perfect but the non-stick surface has been known to be lethal to pet birds (and I have one that I think of as a son).

Any recommendations? I cook a lot of chicken and fish. I'm looking at toaster ovens and that sort of thing, but are there any "do it all" machines like the GF grill?

I think an indoor grill is a great idea, particularly during the summer or to cut down on cooking w fat/oil. Many folks may like a Foreman (sp?), but I have one that is the size of a huge round pizza with a tempered glass lid. It has a grill surface that cleans up w a paper towel or a little water (nonstick surface) - it's a plug-un. I would look around in the stores till you find what meets your needs, & compare prices. I use my microwave on occasion - for veggies, etc.

A slow cooker or crock pot is another way to go, but stay away from using canned soups loaded w salt.

We have two pet birds - a cockatiel and a senegal parrot so I know what you mean about your pets.

There is a new George Foreman appliance that does about 10 different things such as bake, broil, toast, grill, convection oven, toaster oven, etc...The best part is that there is a door on the front that closes so your baby will be safe. They've been running it on sale @ Wal-Mart for about $99 & it is worth it!

I have combination microwave, convection and toaster oven by Sharp. Love it, had it a year or more, use it almost every day. It also has a broiler. It really saves on elec. and cooks cooler. I also have a GF grill, I never use, however I do have a GF small roaster oven, I do use for small roasts like pork loins.

I own a toaster oven that I use all the time. I love to cook, but my toaster oven is just amazing. It grills, bakes, toasts, and broil, so you can practically do anything. They are really inexpensive compared to other gadgets. I recommend you buying one that does all of those functions. Its going to save you time, and believe me, you are going to use it a lot.

A grill pan for your stove so you can do hamburgers and steaks all year round. Slow cooker so you can put meat in the morning and it does the cooking while your at work and it is ready when you are to eat.

Another option for you would be a small crockpot, fill it in the morning, food is ready when you get home from work, and it doesn't heat up the kitchen either. Its also easy to cook without fat or oil using a crock.

I have none... choices are a matter of your opinion
I want to pick on your problem with Teflon..
That idea is beyond reason..!
it is not only for human food preparation but FDA approved.. so how would your bird be effected.
