I am not sure how to set people up in our receiving line after our ceremony. Do I need to include all the bridesmaids and groomsmen in the line? Also, do ushers dismiss the guests from the pews after the ceremony so they then file through the receiving line?

Reciveing line set up

Parents of the Bride, Bride, Groom, Parents of the Groom
Maid of honor, Bestman, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen

No you dont have to have the attendants, in fact its better if you dont, it will cut down on alot of the time the guests spend in he recieving line. Plus, not everyone will know your attendants and what are they really going to say to them? "Great job walking and standing", its kind of pointless to put them in the line. The recieving line is a line used so that you will get face to face time with every guest and they can wish you both well. But if you want them in put them in it.

No the ushers dont dismiss the guests. After the parents leave the guests will begin filing out, they know what to do.

The previous answers gave you an idea of how to set up the recieving line, but don't stress about it. I was just in a wedding about a month ago which I helped coordinate, and I realized too late that we never discussed how to set up the recieving line.

It turned out perfectly because we lined up pretty much how we filed out of the church with the exception of the brides parents who were first. The guests know how to file out of the church so no worries there
Our limo driver was a real pro and helped us with the procession and the receiving line, so don't worry however it turns out it will be fine!

The guests know to exit front to back and go through receiving line. Traditionally the bride's parents are first. You do not need to have all bridesmaids and groomsmen. Just yourselves and parents.
