You should only study a language if you have a genuine personal interest in it. That said, languages are compulsory at a lot of schools. To get around that, why not listen to some Spanish songs, radio programs, people talking in shops, movies, and on TV, to get the feel of it and see if you like the sound of it.

You also can't separate the language from the culture.

Why not also read up on Hispanic cultures and Spanish-speaking countries, of which there are many. Spain itself is famous for art, architecture, food, dance, music and many other fascinating things. Spanish people are supposed to be passionate, fiery, and fond of music and dancing. See if any aspects of Hispanic culture attract you.

You may well find yourself hooked!

EDIT: I don't agree that Spanish is difficult to learn. It has a consistent and predictable writing system, so one letter has only one sound, unlike in English. It is not hard to pronounce either. Apart from the rolled "r" all the sounds exist in standard English.

Definitely!

I wish I had taken Spanish instead of French, and may even take courses after work.

Regardless of what you think about immigration, the fact is that a growing percentage of the population speaks Spanish - some of them speak only Spanish - and those who know that language will have an edge over those who speak only English.
