Why do most ppl think that "goodness" on some level will gain them entrance into heaven?

No one in heaven will be there because they have been good, but because they ARENT , and are relying on the goodness of the ONE who died for them. Those are the ONLY ONES going to heaven , according to the Bible.

If you arent sure where YOU are going when YOU die...please contact me.

For those who think I am judging them....come on now...be honest. YOU and I will be judged by what Gods Word SAYS!

"No man will be justified by the works of the law"

We are justified thru grace alone thru faith alone in Christs finished work alone.

That is salvation at its simplest and finest. Take it or leave it.

You are so right. We were having visitation one day and this man said he was going to heaven because he was nice to animals.

People need to understand that there is only one way to heaven, Jesus Christ. That they're faith and understanding of what Jesus did for them, is they're only way to heaven.

You've been deceived by teachers who teach doctrines to be popular, my friend. The Bible actually teaches that you need to rely on Jesus Christ AND be a good person:

Matt. 7: 21 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/matt/7/21#21
21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

James 2: 14, 24 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/james/2/14,17-18,20,22,24,26#14
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
• • •
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Matthew 7:24 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/matt/7/24#24
24 ¶ Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon fa rock:

Matt. 5: 48
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matt. 6: 15 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/matt/6/15#15
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The Bible is filled with references to commandments of God. If all that was needed for salvation was faith in Jesus Christ, and it wasn't necessary to strive to be a good person, why would he have taught us so many things designed to help us be good people?

Well, you're obviously going to make some people mad talking like that. Why are you telling people how NOT to get to heaven? Let me try to explain what he's saying.

Everyone in earth has a sinful nature. It's impossible for anyone to be perfect (I'm sure you're well aware of this.) But the standard to get into heaven is perfection. Not because God hates humanity and wants us to fail, but because he can't stand to be in the presence of sin. He loves us, but he hates out sin. God says that the wages of sin is death.

So, God can't just allow us to be with him if we're sinful. Someone had to pay the price for our sin. So, God "gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life" [John 3:16] Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins so that we could be with God. Now, it's through trusting in Jesus as our savior that we're saved.

What the asker was trying to say is that it's not by good works that we're saved, but through the blood of Jesus.

Yes, I am aware of that, and I'm very glad you've asked this question because lots of people out there think that just being "good" is good enough to get them to heaven. According to God, no-one is "good" and even our acts of "goodness" are like filthy rags to a holy and righteous God. The only "good" person to walk this earth was Jesus, and he was perfect, without sin. We are not perfect and sin. That's why we need to acknowledge Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.

I'm a little bit worried about your last sentence, though.

This is your view and opinion. Fundamentalists have got to stop thinking they have cornered the market on gospel truth. Many believers would disagree with you vehemently. You have every right to believe anything you want, but so do others. This is your limited interpretation of the bible. It does a great disservice to God when you threaten people of different beliefs with going to hell and burning until their skin melts like mozzarella cheese on a hot slice of pizza. That's not the God I love and worship.

When you die, you die. My sister who was deeply religious promised that "if she could" she would contact us after she reached "the Other side." She died 5 years ago and no one has heard anything from her. Religion was created by Man to control other men. I'm paraphrasing here, but we have allowed religion to obscure logic. Millions who believe blindly in a super being who no one has ever seen will redeem them at death. And a just and loving god sending people to hell. If that's just and loving, I'm glad I don't "believe".

Sounds like heaven isn't the place to be then.
Although, I don't know how that fits in with this:

"And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their DEEDS. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their DEEDS."

Are you aware that this is a sick and twisted view. Judging someone based solely on their beliefs is wrong and evil, and this is also the reason why I left Christianity and never looked back. No true God would ever condone such sick behavior, only a human could create something that judgmental and disgusting.

why would you have the faintest clue where i will be going when i die.?
i can say with assurance that you absolutley do not.
and why do you need to use capitals in that way that indicates your readership is in some way retarded and need to be yelled at ? in addition the actual words that you have chosen to yell are the least important in your message.
try and tell a tale of hope if you wish to convey anything that is of anyuse . ta

I'll bet a weeks pay there are less people in hell for being a good person than there are in heaven. Why would you not want to try to go to heaven.I sure wouldn't use your reasoning. I want to go to heaven so I'll try to be a good person and set a good example for my grandchildren. .

It must be good thinking that Hitler is relaxing in heaven right now. He believed in Jesus. I can't say the same about Gandhi though.

The fact that Christians believe that regardless of your actions, if you believe in Jesus you will go to heaven, helps explain the violent history of Christianity.

With the fall of the Roman Empire, the librarian of Alexandria was pulled off her carriage and skinned alive. Literacy dropped. Even the Pope had to have the Bible read to him. In the first crusade, Christians killed tens of thousands of people they called "infidels". The Children's Crusade (1212) caused the deaths of nearly 50,000 children. Preachers sentenced to death and executed thousands during the Inquisition (1233-1834) for heresy and witchcraft. There were the Salem witch trials (1692) in America. The 17th Century Thirty Years War (Catholics v. protestants) wiped out tens of millions in Europe. In the Taiping Rebellion in China in the 1850's a Christian cult started a war that resulted in the slaughter of twenty million people. In the Holocaust six million Jews were murdered. Muslims and Christians in Bosnia reached a death toll of over 250,000.

See what I mean?
