No,you are not required by law to wear a crash helmet while riding a trike or a quad.

But i would seriously advise you to wear one,i cannot even count all the times that ive been hit in the face, while riding my motorbike......suicidal birds, stones, gravel and huge bugs/wasps...( crash helmet protects you from all of these ) you will get exactly the same on a quad.

An off-road ( moto-cross ) style helmet is very good on a quad, superb periphial vision, excellent hearing and good ventilation.

Technically you only require a helmet when riding a two wheel motorbike or scooter as soon as you have three wheels or more the wearing of a helmet is no longer a legal requirement, doesn't apply though to a motorbike/sidecar combination for the reason I believe the sidecar can be detached.

I've seen people rob banks, too - does that mean it's legal (or smart)??? If you go by what you see other people do, you can do just about anything you want to - but if you're looking for what's legal, then the law is your example.

More importantly, the helmet is for YOUR protection; otherwise, you stand a better than average chance of turning your quad into a donor-cycle.
