isn't there enough of the real word and universe to explore and understand before you start on the 'spiritual' element.

Christians choose a faith that separates them from God. God lives in the glory of creation, which we are all a part of. When we put our faith in the improbable, the implausible and the utterly ridiculous, we lose sight of the magnificence that is right before our eyes. God is expressed through the complexities of nature and the cosmos.

Real spirituality is completely of the natural world. Man hasn't yet learned to understand the science of it, but like all things in this world, it is bound by natural laws. There are plenty enough unknowns in the natural world to satisfy our desire for mystery.

Many humans have a need to show reverence. We are taught that there is a powerful being that creates and destroys. This being watches our every movement from conception to death. We are instructed on the proper way to appease him. We accept that after death there are great rewards or great punishment. What we receive depends on whether or not we follow the exact criteria to gain entrance to the reward.

What if living a life focused on meeting God after death caused us to miss God in life?

can you really understand and have peace without the spiritual element? no. Let's talk all day about the problems of the world and attempt to apply bandaids to things we don't understand. To explore what's here you end up down to exploring the human being. To be able to accomplish anything with a human being, you have to address the spiritual things that aren't measured yet with science.

Because in life, as the old saying goes, there is death and taxes.
Taxation is a levy imposed by a government on the people. Atheists, like everyone else, are expected to pay. The government of a country affects every walk of life and many of the things we do in one way or another. You may not realise how big an influence the government is, but you know it is there. People who don't pay their taxes are called to account and punished.
Death is something imposed by God on every living thing, and when they die they are called to account by God for their life. Atheists, like everyone else, die. You probably don't know how big an influence God is on your life, but the freedom of expression on the internet is one of the things he has given you.
Whether you want taxation or not, or death or not, you don't have a choice, that is part of the real world. The Christians are the ones who are more realistic because they not only accept that God controls things, but they have made a preparation for when they are called to account for their life.

If you look at all the questions on YA concerning meaning of life, purpose of life and point to life, you will realize how important those things are to people. And not just to the religious people.

Try this quote from a fellow atheist:

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

So without God, we are forced to invent a purpose and pretend that it is what we were meant to do with our lives. This process substitutes feelings for truth and we do it because we cannot bear a pointless, meaningless life.

In the light of real meaning and real purpose, your ideas about exploration can be seen as something to keep us busy so we don't think about out pointless existence. A crutch to get us through to death without committing suicide.

Because God made the life I'm in and Because I do have God in my life I can better understand and explore my world! (And be grateful for it!) I wouldn't want to have a life without God in it!

Because He is True Life, He Created Life in His Divine image!!

1 John 1:1-2

'That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of Life--the life was manifested , and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us.'

God created the world of which you speak/ He created the entire universe. We have not yet begun to find what all He created for us.

Why not add Him, since He made it all?
