Sorry - the vet is closed today and i have to wait until monday. I just got a puppy last nite from a reputatble breeder. She is 14 weeks old and had a little spunk yesterday - last nite and today are a different story. She spent 3 hours in the back of a truck coming to me and then he had her out sitting in the grass until i got there - maybe an hour as they made better time than i did. She has been listless as all get out - mind you it was proabably about 103 yesterday in the car she was in - in the way back where i assume there was little ac. She is eating, drinking and going "potty" (both 1&2) outside but is just listless - she just is sleeping a lot - could it be from the heat yesterday or the new surroundings? I've never had a dog before and am worried about her. She is alert and taking everything in, just a bit lethargic and listless. Thanks for any suggestions til i get her to the vet on Monday. :)

Such great answers - thank you all so much. I will call the emergency vet line just to make sure - i guess i'm an over-anxious mother. She did have 4 other litter mates and has been following our cat around like it's a sibling. The cat is none-to-thrilled - lol. Thanks for being so nice, ya'll. :)

New puppies can do that sometimes when they are taken from an environment they know, with their litter mates and all, and are suddenly in an environment they don't know, with people they don't know, and their buddies are all gone. They DO get depressed. However, with a little time, and lots of love, attention, cuddeling, and stuff, she will come around quickly. May take a few days though. But, she will. Also sounds like yesterday may have worn her out a bit and drained her energy. Keep her hydrated and inside where it is cool. Animals can get heat stroke too. They should NEVER be an outside only pet in hot weather.

Definitely, sounds like she's just tired from the heat and possibly a little depressed at the new surroundings. Sounds like you're doing the right thing with keeping track of all her functions. If her stools are normal and she's going regularly then she should be ok. Puppies do tend to sleep a lot. However, you should take her to the vet on Monday just to get a clean bill of health and start the process of getting her vaccinations.

It could well be that the new surroundings and the heat have double teamed your pup. It's good that she is alert but at 14 weeks she should be a handful. Do you have anything from her old home that might have familiar scents on it. That might help perk her up. If she doesn't improve by Mon. then by all means get her to the vet. Is she taking food and water ok? Good luck.

Well it might be nothing , it could be that she is just stressed out new surroundings and all just watch her but if she is eating and drinking and all that that she is just fine just give her some time to come around , and on Monday take her to the vet to get her checked out to make sure she is OK and that she don't need anymore shots and don't forget to get hartworm medicine for her .

She might still be a little hot from yesterday, but considering she is in new surroundings she may be a little nervous. Just give her a little time. When you go to the vet you will find out what is really wrong. But again it must just be because she is still getting used to the surroungings!

Most dogs who go threw that in this kind of heat are just simply tired. she will be very hyper the next day and want to investigate her new surroundings. but i would go get her checked on just in case if she does have something wrong with her. look up another vet in your area and get them to look at her. Good Luck.

She is probably just getting used to her new surroundings, but if your really worried, or she gets worse, take her to the vet!

she might be a little sick, but she might also just miss her kennelmate, if she had one, or she's confused about where she is, or maybe she's just tired. puppies do tend to sleep a lot.
