They have a different understanding as to what a ghost actually is.
My demon side never takes sides, but I take sides. I take all sides. I believe in ghosts, while I believe they cannot exist but do anyway.
EDIT: I have been thumbs-down'd on every question I've answered. Somebody wants to destroy me?

An atheist should not be-little any religion but if what they are saying is based on facts of the history of christianity force converting people or killing them, christians should take a hard look at its past. And as far as not believing in an after life, no one can no for sure, not even a christian. It is only a christians belief in the bible and what that perticular denomination says is the truth that's what should be discussed. I could believe absolutely that I am seven feet tall all day long, just because I believe it doesn't make it true.

Lets see if I can answer in a polite manner.
I am an atheist, I admit I have had a go at Christians and in fact all religions on this particular forum!
As an atheist I don't believe in God it follows then that I cant possibly believe in any religion that worships a God.
That is just about all that we atheists have in common!!.
If a fellow atheist has seen a ghost, it doesn't mean I have to believe in ghosts!
Hope this helps?

i used to be an atheist (no I'm not Christian now) and i don't believe in ghosts, i have never seen one, nor do i know any atheists who have. well, other than the ones you see at Halloween. oh and atheists tend to do nothing more than point out all the stuff in the bible that has been disproved by science and also the number of wars and death that Christianity has caused.

I don't get it either. What your talking about I mean. I think you should edit your question to explain better.
Edit
I get it know. I've never seen atheists say they have seen a ghost. I personally don't believe in ghosts as I don't believe in the after life. I can't answer for anyone else.

I'm not a christian, but I don't believe in ghosts, spirits or magic.
What I would like to know, if they don't believe in after life, where do these ghosts and spirits come from then?

I have written a small tract on the question of life after death and tackle it from a logical perspective. Assuming that everyone is pretty well in agreement that if the offer of Heaven was to do with the execution of justice that makes up for justice not properly executed on Earth, this tract may appeal to the one who is in favour of the idea. It may not win an argument though but it puts the case forward like in a court of law.

The only ghosts I've ever seen are the chances of questions like yours making any sense.

That always baffled me too. How does someone believe in ghosts, vampires, spirits, or anything thought of as supernatural and not a god somewhere. That doesn't seem to make sense, but I'm sure that could be said of anyone's beliefs.

It's because they hold the hypocricy of the church in contempt.
Just look at the following clip of a ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIEST. This is a man who preaches to others how to act and yet he is just a foul mouthed yob himself:
