I'm only twenty years old and my hair thinning. I think this happened when I lost a large amount of weight a few years back from doing an extended crash diet. What can I do? Is it expensive to go to a hair clinic to regrow hair? Do those over-the-counter products really work? I want fast results, if that's possible. This is really depressing for me and this will take away my self confidence immensely if I don't do something about it. I take multi-vitamins, eat healthy, exercise, and use special conditioners, but this doesn't seem to do a whole lot. Please help me!

Your best bet is to seek out a dermotologist. I had to when mine was thinning due to medicaitons that caused problems during my hair's rest cycle. They can identify the reason as well as tell you what to do to stall that or stop it if it can be stopped. I had to shock my hair by cutting it all off. It was way down my back past the middle of my bottom and I had to cut it short above the collar bone. It was either that or possible lose it all but they were right on the money with the diagnosis becasue within a week, it stopped falling out. Now after 5 years of keeping it short, I'm finally growing it back out.

When I was in my 20's and on the pill, my hair started falling out more than normal, and it really depressed me. Life moves on and changes, though, and after awhile I quit taking the pill and the problem stopped.

You should ask your doctor about your hair loss. If he gives you a stupid/dopey/too general/not good enough answer, ask a different doctor. There are plenty of them around and eventually you will find someone willing to listen and work with you to solve the problem.

First things first, Since you are so young I would see a Doctor and have your Thyroid checked. This is something few people ever hear about but is a huge cause for thinning hair.
I have a Nanny (female) who is thinning quite a bit in the front of her head and was told to check her thyroid. This has helped her significantly. I hope this little known information helps you too.
(dont forget to look at dad & grandpa for hints to your future)

I am pretty sure that it costs a lot to get hair implants. Try going to the doctor and seeing if they can prescribe anything that could help you. I've also seen ads for rogaine and that might help somewhat. Really I think the only solution is to get hair implants but that may cost quite a lot so until you can get the funds I would suggest that you buy a lot of really cute hats.

These might be some reasons why your hair is doing that

mainly Significant weight loss(like you said)
Weighing down your hair with products such as conditioner
pulling at hair
Brushing roghly

i've actually encounter lot of customer having this same problem and this is what they all feedback to me.Some of them spend lot of money going to hair clinic, they will need to spend few thousand dollar to sign package.and their feedback is not really gd.from what i survey, maybe u can try something affordable for the start like using this particular shampoo by the brand of PHYTO for Hair Thinning Women. It made of lot of plant extract, and it mild enough. Moreover,it help to stimulate hair growth and prevent further hairloss. U can get it either from SASA or Waston.
