If it hurts worse in the mornings then it could be reflux disease which causes acid from your stomach to come back up your esophagus. (Gastric esophageal reflux disease-GERD). The reason it could hurt more in the morning is because when you lay down at night the acid can more easily go back up into your throat. Anyone with GERD is suppose to sleep with the head of their bed elevated at least 15-30 degrees. This could eventually cause an ulcer to your esophagus. You should see a doctor.
