About a week ago, my dog got out. When she was returned to us, she was limping. The person who found her did not mention it. My only theories on this matter are that she had her paw unintentionally crushed by a heavier object, she may have a foriegn object embedded in her paw, or she has a serious sprain, or even a broken bone. As of today, she yelps whenever pressure is applied to the paw (this can happen when she is lying down, or if I touch it) Also if I attempt to pick her up, she starts yelping and crying uncontrollably, so much that it is honestly ear-splitting. She will still walk and limp to greet people, but she cannot by any means run. But what I would really like to know is the estimate of the cost to have my dog checked by a vet. Also, are there any ideas to what may be ailing my dog? I am very worried that this may be a serious concern. Thank you.

Oh you need to get her to the vet now . I know that Banfield.net for a location near you has free exams on Saturdays but not sure if they offer that service in your area , but I'm sure it doesn't cost that much it just depends what they'll do to the dog and besides if it's too much you can see if you guys can work out a payment plan with them .

You are looking at a much bigger bill now than you were when it first happened. Do you see any obvious injuries on her paw? Cuts? Inflammation? toenail injuries?
Unfortunately after a week, whatever happened has had a chance to become infected. The worst case scenario would be that she would loose a leg. Hopefully it is a small injury and the vet will easily find it and treat it.

If you honestly love this dog, and can't afford to pay a vet for care, then surrender her to someone who will, perhaps animal control or the humane society. Love means doing the best for the dog, not for your own emotions. She needs vet care. Loving her means putting her need above your own.

She may have been hit and is having problems with her hips. Call animal rescue groups and see if any of them offer any advice over the phone. You should be able to get numbers from the vet. If you are stuck, look in the newspaper or online for breeders that are American Kennel Club members. There might be someone who is available to take your call. (And they have lots of good contacts!). Some of the breeders will be friendly and others might be too busy to chat. I'm afraid your dog will need an X-ray and if it's a sprain it will be a long road back to healing. Good luck!!!

Checkups run (usually) $35-$50 in my area. X rays are going to be at least $50-$100 more. Treatment? Depends on the problem. Your dog could have anything from a severe bruise to dislocation to broken bones. Make a trip to the vet. Better to find out it's not serious now than have complications later. Good Luck.

The dog got out, which was not the dogs fault. Now she is back and has been in pain for several days and you have not sought vet help. That is SAD!!!!!! She could have been hit by a car, shot, kicked, or injured in many ways. CLearly in pain, and you---a week later--are asking here.
OF COURSE THIS COULD BE SERIOUS!!!!!!! But clearly that has not mattered enough for you to get her to a vet!!!
Either seek vet attention NOW, or surrender the dog to a shelter so SOMEONE can help her.

It won't break the bank for a consultation with a vet, who from there can provide you with an estimate of any ongoing costs.

Whatever the cost though, it sounds like your dog needs to see a vet ASAP.

Take her to the vet. Work out a payment plan with the vet. When you're a pet owner, you have a responsibility to provide medical care for your pet.

I would expect around $200-$250. That allows for an exam, radiographs, wrap if necessary, and any prescriptions to go home on. Good luck to you!

What about this situation says DON'T seek a vet?

Cost depends on where you live, but at this point, it's not fair to let her suffer. I wouldn't tell you anyway for fear that would keep you from going!

YOU KNOW SHE'S IN PAIN, DO SOMETHING!!!
