MRSA is an opportunistic infection that can sometimes lie dormant until another infection weakens the immune system. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a type of bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics. These antibiotics include methicillin and other more common antibiotics such as oxacillin, penicillin and amoxicillin. Staph infections, including MRSA, occur most frequently among persons in hospitals and healthcare facilities (such as nursing homes and dialysis centers) who have weakened immune systems.

MRSA infections that are acquired by persons who have not been recently (within the past year) hospitalized or had a medical procedure (such as dialysis, surgery, catheters) are known as CA-MRSA infections. Staph or MRSA infections in the community are usually manifested as skin infections, such as pimples and boils, and occur in otherwise healthy people.

Here is website that can help you be more aware of what to look for if you suspect you have MRSA. If you suspect you have MRSA, it is important to see a physician ASAP, as there are precautions you must take to avoid infecting people who come in contact with you.

MRSA is methacillin resistance staph aureus. This is an infection that can occur in any area of the body, not just the skin. It just means that the type of infection that someone has is resistant to penicillin type medications. How do you know that MRSA was present in the gym? The only way you can get this is by coming in contact with some type of fluid from the area that has MRSA in it. Your urine can even have MRSA in it.
