Learning to just make a beautiful sound on any brass instrument takes literally years of hard work. While saxophone is not necessarily easier to play, you can achieve a rich, full sound much more quickly. With sax, you will get to a point where you can make music, and make it sound beautiful faster than you can on trumpet.
That being said, I personally think that the sound of brass instruments is far more beautiful and moving than that of woodwinds (sax, clarinet, etc.)

I play alot of brass instruments in alot of different types of ensembles, and I think that trumpet is possibly the most solid brass instrument to learn if you wanted to learn just one. I used to be a trumpet player alone, but then I went out and played french horn for a while. That TOTALLY changed things for me. If you're looking for a challenging instrument that sounds freakin' amazing too, try french horn. It is pretty cool, and it isnt sissy either if youre worried about that. But if you dont mean to play an instrument for 3 thousand lifetimes, then do trumpet. It's a fun instrument too and the people that play it are the greatest people on earth, lol.

My suggestion is to try them. When I started band, our teacher put out all the instruments available and said, "give em a try". So we did.......I chose trumpet cause I couldn't get the sax to make the right sound. I think the sax is the coolest one, but trumpets sweet to. If you really want to impress the chick, learn the guitar. You can look up lessons on the Internet but I suggest looking up tabs. Find you favorite songs, alot are easier than you think, and lean them. You'll get plenty of play, trust me.

Try the baritone sax. It has a great sound, and you will probably be one of only two or three people playing it, so you will get some good parts. If that doesn't work, how about the trombone? I have a female friend who played the trombone and she said that she would only date trombone players because they were fantastic kissers from the way that had to place their lips on the trombone!

Saxophones are great, the fingerings aren't any harder than the brass instruments. if you're afraid of playing music that's too fast or complicated, then a tenor sax would be better because they normally have much slower more rhythmic parts.

Does your school have a variety of instruments that you can try before making up your mind?
If you are interested in sax, you will be happy to practice. Half the battle is to like what you are doing. And you already know you need to practice regularly.
Try those instruments out and go for it !!

People say that the most easy instrument to learn to play is guitar. If u start with sax, and for some reason in one moment give it up, it might be even easier to learn guitar. Try sax, you cant loose anything.

i play trumpet!! i love it, i have an excuse to be loud and obnoxious. :) plus it's pretty easy except on those darn high notes.
but if you really want to play saxophone then go for it!! why are you asking us if that's what you really want to play?? the sax is very versatile and it's not REALLY hard just with all those keys....

Okay I'm under my mom's name and I am 14 years old female.
I think you should play the clarinet. I did and it wasn't hard to play.
But since you going to high school and other people know how to play their instruments, I suggest you take after school lessons.
At my high school we are preparing for the marching season and the music is no joke. But you see I don't play the clarinet anymore...I'm in COLORGUARD! YEA! lol Take my advice.

I play flute and saxophone (really they are close and its easier to switch to saxophone if you play flute) but you could just play sax if you want to (its fun!) The fingerings are easy to learn.
