They can do all that, BUT they have never fought a war in over 500 years. So their COMBAT experience is a little rusty.
The only other drawback in their perfect world is that the country has three official languages, German, French, and Italian, but the military only uses one (German) so orders have been known to be misunderstood.

The Swiss Army has a reputation for being VERY good (as evidenced by Hitler's decision to not invade the country during WWII)
My understanding is that all Swiss youths are required to spend a couple of years on active duty, and then are subject to recall at a moment's notice.
I would not be surprised if the Swiss were able to protect their border within two hours. The country is very small and citizens keep their military equipment in their homes and know their mobilization assignment.
WRT substantiation, the Swiss government should be able to provide general info about their military.

The US Army Could fight both the Israel and Switzerland at the same time and win.
But this does not mean that what your Swiss friend said is not true. The US Army is larger so it can do more.
The mission of the Israeli and Swiss Army's are much more limited in scope so they can focus their training and operation on defense.

I'm not sure what your friend means by "best organized", but in my opinion the Swiss military is one of the best, if not THE best military in the world. They have lived in one of the most turbulent regions in the world and have maintained peace for over 700 years.
They do this through use of near universal conscription in the military (reserve), combined with a commitment to personal storage/usage of firearms.
Man for man, they have pretty close to the ideal integration of military and society. They're incredibly well defended, but their society is not overly militarized.

Its most likely true they could mobalize over thier entire country in two hours since switzerland is tiny in comparision to most countries. I have never heard of their organization mainly because i have never heard of them actually fighting. the only thing i have ever heaqrd of the swiss army doing was hiding in the mountains when germany came by telling them if they wanted to fight the german army would basically have to take them out from the top of amountain. I would not bet on your friend being accurate although i believe him that isreal is up there, and they are seen fighting constantly through out their short history as a country.

swiss army is the militia based on the county system. it would not deploy to defend borders, it would mobilize the men in the towns where they live and there they would fight.

So, after what you have reported, "very reliable proffesional military" etc. as quickly as you're invaded, you will all run and cover in the mountains fairly of dealing with the invaders. it somewhat is a great thank you to combat a conflict. I supose you're all knowledgeable to run the 4 minute mile too.

Yes, but armed with those Swiss Army knives, they can't hold off the enemy for long.

It hasn't exactly been frequently tested in battle, but the militia is remarkable. There's near general service, and each militia member keeps an assault rifle in his house, so it's easy to believe that they're quite capable.

Our administration could certainly learn from them. Our troops should be home protecting American borders instead of dying in a foreingn land.
