Please don't rely on yahoo answers for medical advise. You need your nephew to get medical attention from a doctor not random people from yahoo. And yes a fever of 100 for a baby is high. It could be nothing more than a cold coming on or it could be more than that. I always say better safe than sorry.

He is too young to be teething, but babies and children's temperatures can raise a lot quicker than adults can. Since normal is usually 97.0 to 98.6, that isn't too high yet and it could be caused from just being too warm. If he is also fussy, that can just be due to the fact that his temp raised a bit due to some easily explained situation like being to warm. At 7 weeks, he is still being breast fed or bottle fed as his sole form of fluid but you can give steril water to them so I would give that inbetween his feedings as much as he will take and watch him for a day or so. If the fever stays the same and no other symptoms arrise, it is most likely just a viral situation. Of course if it goes down, it was nothing serious, but if it goes higher, he may need medical attention so contact the pediatrition.

No 100 is not high but you do need to find out why he is running a temp. Is he getting enough liquid, in the hot temps it is quite easy for babies to get dehydrated. Maybe he has a cold or his teeth are starting to come in. Look for other symptoms and if necessary have his mom consult a doctor. Let your gut feel be your guide. Do let his mom & dad use their judgement.
Contrary to popular belief temperatures are designed to burn out bad bacteria and only when a temp spikes rapidly does a child convulse. Most of the time that this happens, it is so quick that nothing could be done to prevent it anyway. I know a lot of folks tell you to give the child something to bring the temp down but I would just give the child as much fluid as you can and keep him comfortable.

The fever itself isn't all that horrible, and probably not a lot to worry about. Much more worrisome is that he won't take his bottle. It's August. If he won't drink anything in the next few hours, he could be at risk for dehydration. It doesn't take long.
I would say give him a dose of baby Tylenol or baby Motrin and see if the fever comes down and he will calm down and eat.
Considering how young he is, though, it's probably just best to go see the doctor, or at LEAST call.

That I don't think is high but isn't normal neither, probably he has a colic and is why he does not want anything. When they have a colic they are very fussy and crying a lot. I recommend to call your doctor because he is only seven weeks old in you can't give him any kind of medicine. Good look.

they usually say to call your doctor if a baby that young has a fever of above 100.5 but if you or the mom feels uneasy about it I would call the doctor especially if the baby doesn't want to be held, that is unusual. Best of luck an I hope everything is okay.

Keep a close watch on him and if it gets higher, go to the ER. They can give a suppository fever reducer.
