It's not so much that it helps in weight loss like a diet pill would but if you choose non-fat yogurt it is low calorie, non-fat, not too bad in carbs and great for digestion and as a source of calcium.

Maybe you have read lately that calcium ingested from real food (not supplements) can help keep belly fat away.

Yogurt is an excellent diet food and is a knock-out nutritionally. I have 1 container every day and will often purchase the frozen yogurt pops (the low sugar ones).

Depending on one food to get yourself to lose weight is not a good program. Saying that yogurt can be a very good adjunct to weight loss.
It also depends on the type of yogurt. To get the most benefit you should probably use a yogurt that is low fat, unsweetened and plain (no fruit mixed in). You can mix in your own fruit, berries are very low crab and dense in nutrients, along with a high fiber cereal for a satisfying crunch.
I use a yogurt that has added robotics, inulin and pectin in it, its called Stony Field Farms. The probiotics help keep you intestines right and the inulin and pectin are great fibers sources helping you to feel full. Since a natural type yogurt has most of the milk sugars digested by the bacteria in it they are lower in cabs than the label says. Yogurt is a good source of dairy calcium for those with mild lactose intolerance. Dairy calcium has been shown to help curb appetite and increase metabolism.

Instead of starting a yogurt diet, it would be better if you had a regular diet with fruits and veggies. You have to get Vit. C from fruits, protein from fish, carbohydrates from rice and don't forget to exercise. Being on a yogurt diet will mean you will have to eat little yogurt because it's caloric even if it's low fat, and you will be hungry and find it harder to lose weight.
