I doubt your sight is as bad as 20/300 or you would be pretty close to legally blind. Your prescription strength sounds closer to 20/80 or 20/100. The best way to know is to just ask you eye doctor the next time you go for a check up. I am sure they will have no problem telling you because as a patient it is your right to know the accuracy of your eye sight.

There's not a tight linkage between Rx strength and vision.

With an average-sized pupil, -4.25 would correspond to about 20/300 (6/90, UK and Europe)

But if, without your contacts, you look through a 1mm pinhole held close to your eye (poke a pen tip through a piece of paper or card) your sight will "magically" improve, with no lens power there at all.
