Can anyone explain why this happens? I have a portable TV in my bedroom, it is usually left on standby and switched off using the remote control. Quite often when I turn the bedrrom light on. the TV switches on at the same time, we have recently moved house and this used to happen in the old house too! Is my TV possessed or is there some other explanation?

two possible

1. the glitch created when u turn on the light is seen by the tv and turns it on.
the light bulb going on is seen by the remote.

cover remote and try it.
if it doesn't do it - that's it.

if it still does it, it is something u can't fix except maybe by adding a UPS to your line.

Blimey, it must be something to do with the infra-red sensor on the set. Just as an experiment cover the front of the telly up and then turn the light on. Then you will know that it is to do with that or not. As long as demons don't come out of the screen , don't worry !

My word, these Japanese are fiendishly clever. Did you know that all houses with central heating controls are already interconnected to a massive control centre near Tokyo via the mains? What will happen next I shudder to think. Probably high frequency sounds from the vacuum cleaners that will drive us all mad, I tell you, mad.

If it is plugged into the same outlet as your lights then the switch might be turning it on. Try plugging it in somewhere else to see if this happens anymore.

well, theres a couple of things that could be the cause, the major one will be infrared emitted from your lighting, this happens alot with energy saving bulbs, its quite spooky, but fun too, another thing could be to do wih your power outlets and them being slightly too powerful (yet again with the lightbulbs power)

hope tht helps.
