Tech support is where it's AT in today's workforce. Everybody NEEDS them. I don't feel the same about telemarketing. I feel sorry for them.

You are certainly right when you say sometimes we have to be practical and take the money. I would give the high-paying call center a shot, as pretty much any job just turns into a job, no matter how exciting or awful it seems at first. However, working in a call center can be an extremely frustrating, stressful experience. It's certainly not for everyone. But it doesn't hurt to try, and if the pay is right, I would give it a shot.

It depends on what your final goal is. Many jobs in the financial industry look favourably on both. Telemarketing means that you have experience in dealing with people, etc. and can work in one of their call centres (telebanking). You can move up from there.
Tech support can always be used in the I.T. department.

I would say so. I hate it when telemarketers call during dinner or family time. Also, I call tech support only when I need to. I don't get aggrevated with them unless I can't understand them.

Tech support is a career. Telemarketing is a job...which do you seek?

I don't know about reputation but they are probably treated better rather than hanging up on you...
